So apparently Wonder Woman was supposed to be awesome and The Mummy was supposed to blow.
But besides the big fat boner I got from the Linda Carter upgrade - I though Wonder Woman sucked.
And The Mummy was actually awesome. I can't figure out why it got universally shredded, definitely an enjoyable flick.

I liked it, too. I thought it was fun and was exactly what I'd expect a modern mummy movie to be. Not sure why it got shit on so much.K.K.VanMalmsteen wrote: And The Mummy was actually awesome. I can't figure out why it got universally shredded, definitely an enjoyable flick.
I liked Wonder Woman as well, though.

Wild (2016) - 7/10:
Weird German indy drama about a repressed office worker who gets bullied by everybody. One day she meets an actual wolf and goes nuts, takes it home and lives with it. All of a sudden she's all confident and dominant and uninhibited. There's even hints at bestiality. Good movie.
Winter Light (1963) - 6/10:
Another one of those Bergman movies that are overly Christian, so I barely get half of it. Great actors as usual, but the theme sucks.
Moon (2009) - 7/10:
Good sci-fi movie about an isolated astronaut who meets his own clone. Very predictable, but well done.
Train to Busan (2016) - 7/10:
Could have been a classic zombie movie if we didn't have zombie movies coming out our asses these days.

True Romance 1993 - 4/10 - I like a couple of Tarantino movies but he was way overrated as a screenwriter in the early 90s. The storyline is fine but this is the most stupid piece of shit dialogue I ever heard. The jewish broad in the lead role isn't hot enough so that's a bummer. I thought she was hot when I was a kid but times change I guess....

Blade runner 2049.
Good God was it long. If you liked the first one I'd say you'd like this one as well. Not full of action, mostly a detective crime sci-fi flick. Kind of a slow paced tense build, had me guessing along to the plot for entirety of film. Visually awesome for the majority of the film. Cast was spot on, view of the future was as bleak as ever. Just seems like it could had been 10-20min left on the floor, few less close ups while we ponder the next move. Do wish I'd watched original a bit more recently before going into theater (only seen the original film a couple months ago).
9/10
... Im looking forward to the holograms of the future.

Nailed! (2015) Jessica Biel Jake Gyllenhaal James Marsden Catherine Keener Beverly D'angelo Kirstie Alley Traci Morgan
There's something fishy about this one the cast looked much younger than 2015 and there's no way in hell Biel would get top billing over Gyllenhaal in 2015 the tone of the movie was all wrong but Biel was HOT AF 6/10
Big Game(2014) Finnish movie with Samuel L Jackson playing POTUS and getting rescued by a kid in the mountains after an air force one crash 6.5/10

The first half was pretty good. Have some good "eww" stuff in it, but then it falls apart.
They try to shove the entire 2nd half of the story into a montage of some sort.
I agree the backstory for the Moonlight Man could have been fleshed out more, and the tie-up a bit less montagey, but honestly, that didn't really bother me too much.
I thought the casting was aces and having her husband speak to her, and how they went about her talking to herself worked for me. Both of those aspects could have been much more clumsy.
Hell, the book is 300 pages of a woman talking to herself.
I also liked the Delores Claiborne Easter egg thought it was just another tip of the hat to Sai King and his universe.

Surprisingly well-made indie made by a cinematographer and featuring a strong cast. Basically it's sort of like "Mean Creek," but set in upstate New York. Pretty chilling. Well worth a watch.

"The Meyerowitz Stories (New and Selected)" - 9/10
It's a bit weird getting used to Netflix releasing what would normally be first-run theatrical indie and studio-level films. But it's kind of cool not having to spend extra money to watch 'em. Anyway, this movie is really great. It feels like Noah Baumbach has fused his "Squid and the Whale" with a splash of Wes Anderson's "The Royal Tenenbaums." It's basically about a family of adult kids dealing with the baggage imparted from their obnoxious, somewhat distant sculptor father. Baumbach's dialogue and sense of character feel so realistically neurotic as they do in many of his best movies. The whole cast really shines (making this a a one-two punch for Stiller with the excellent "Brad's Status"). In Sandler's case, you keep wondering whenever he does a great job in a dramatic movie like this why he doesn't just chuck the other infantile crap he spends most of his time making.

Timbuktu (2014) - 9/10:
Movie about the IS advancing in Mali and how it affects the life of peaceful bedouins and villagers from the many different ethnicities in the region. The pictures are beyond beautiful and it's obviously political, though in a very fresh way, as it manages not to portray the Muslim population as either victims or accomplices but real people, many of whom offer resistance that will cost them their lives. Singer/songwriter Fatumata Diawara has a guest role as a musician who refuses to quit singing and whose whole band is stoned as punishment.
Masculin Féminin (1966) - 8/10:
Probably my favorite of the strange 60s Godard films. A bit less overtly political it focuses on the relationship between a confused dude who quit army service and the actual singer Chantal Goya. Her music is not even featured much in the movie, but she looked like a goddess back then. Brigitte Bardot has an uncredited cameo.
Altered States (1980) - 8/10:
I'm a big fan of Ken Russell and this one is probably underrated as a campy drug movie, which it's not really. William Hurt is conducting experiments with hallucinogenics in an isolation chamber, trying to access genetic memories of ancient ancestry or some shit. It starts out like subtle, philosophical Lovecraft horror, but, spoiler alert, he eventually turns into a monkey killing goats at the zoo. It's pretty awesome.
Lore (2012) - 7/10:
One of the better Nazi/war movies I've seen. The daughter of an SS man tries to flee to a different occupation zone with her small siblings when the allies take over Germany in 1945. It's mostly about her being confronted with all the propaganda lies from her family and realizing what really happened. Pretty bleak gritty stuff.
