This is what a film school "F" student thinks avant garde is. Hopefully Rob Zombie will never get another budget to do another movie. Damn this film was BAD! Easily the worst movie I have ever seen.
The reviews I read (on Amazon, I think) were evenly split, with half giving one star and half giving 5. It's a conundrum for me. I love so bad it's good movies (think Sharknado). Is it like that?
Movie suuuuucks....bad. I reviewed it on here when it first came out.
Here it is:
Lords Of Salem - 2 outta 10
Went to the limited release showing of LOS on Friday. Break out the Razzies because it is one of the fucking worst movies I've ever seen. Unintentionally hilarious at points though. Imagine the Sheri Moon Zombie and the "WTF?" white stallion scenes from Halloween 2 over the full 90 mins. I hope this shit becomes a midnight showing/cult favorite in the future. Atrocious and hilarious...yep.
The only cool thing I noticed was the small visual nods to The Sentinel.
"I was looking for that great jazz note that destroyed the walls of Jericho." - The Clash, The Sound Of Sinners
3rd time through this movie, 1st time through the director's cut. Verrrry long, and not much different from the theatrical cut that I noticed. The cracks in this movie are starting to show (subpar delivery from Malin Ackerman, soundtrack choices inspire laughter instead of a somber mood), but overall, this flick really stands up. Billy Crudup (as Dr. Manhattan) was fucking great.
21 Jump Street with Jonah Hill & Tatum
7/10
A lot of laughs. Did not expect much but I ended up watching the entire
film from beginning to end.
The adult humor and foul language was the key for me. Without that the movie
would have been a dud and I certainly would have given up about 20 minutes in.

Nope. It's bad, bad. If you could over dose on a laxative of 70's B horror movie romanticism, this would be the 12 hour later result.
Good - Quite a bit of full frontal nudity!
Bad - The full frontal nudity is of people you don't want to see nude!
JSR and Guttercreep: You're not helping! You've both said things that make me want to watch it. Unintentionally hilarious? 70s B-movie? Sounds like my thing. I think I've got no choice but to see it.

I find it amusing how Rob Zombie and his most ardent fans like to say how it's a homage to 70s horror and that people just don't "get it".
I am a huge fan of all types/periods of horror throughout it's history this movie is just a convoluted, horrible mess.

Somewhat different than the original but both are pretty good.
Great movie! I've been wanting to read the book - I believe it's a trilogy. Gotta remember to make a note & look for this one next time I'm in the used book store.

Pain and Gain. 8/10. Thought Mark Wahlberg and The Rock were good in it, and also Ed Harris. It was pretty funny and entertaining but also dark. I just enjoyed it for what it was instead of comparing it to the real case.
Cynical, dry, soulless shit. Michael Bay's attempt at doing something satirical. Meant to be dark, but just seems cheap and mean spirited. Everybody involved has done better.
Almost made me wish for half a dozen indistinguishable robots fighting a meaningless battle.

5/10. Parts were good, just like looking at Udo in general and especially the way he bought it at the end, but this one wasnt as fun as Flesh for Frankenstein.
Essential Killing - 8/10. One of the best war movies (if you can call it that) I've ever seen. Vincent Gallo is amazing as an Afghan "terrorist" captured by Americans. The rest is kind of like a First Blood in bleak and unsympathetic and awesome, yet very unique.
Ils se marièrent et eurent beaucoup d'enfants ("...And They Lived Happily Ever After" 2004) - 4/10. Boring-ass relationship crap starring Charlotte Gainsbourg. Johnny Depp's also in it for five seconds, speaking French.

Nice hold me over until Ass-Pounding Twinks comes back.

I just watched this last night. Would rate it the same. I'd have watched it a long time ago if I'd realized it was such a good movie.

Yeah but she sure got even with that POS.
Can't wait for the next installment in the trilogy, The Girl Who Played with Fire. I've seen the original versions on Sundance and they were great.
