Beat Girl a.k.a. Wild For Kicks (1960) - 6/10. British trash flick about a teenage girl falling in with a bunch of hipsters because she's upset with her stepmom. Then she wants to be a stripper because the latter turns out to be a former whore too. Something like that. It's pretty laughable, but Gillian Hills is hot in it (also probably like 12) and British jive talk is adorable.

This is a great, really tight crime drama with Tom Hardy, James Gandolfini, Noomi Rapace and Dennis Lehane in the mix. Lehane is one hell of a writer.
Mad respect for Gandolfini. Very sad this is his final film. I think he was destined to win an Oscar in the second half of his life.
The hype for this movie is very high and the film did not disappoint.
The writing is top notch. Amazing script.

Captain America 2 - The Winter Soldier 10/10 On BluRay. The extras kinda suck, but that's hardly a fault on this otherwise perfect package. And the commentary is killer.

Draft Day 6/10
Film would have been worse but football scenes were limited to
1 segment only.
Very average script. Film was made for TV.
Jennifer Garner was a nice piece of eye candy.

Hotel Noir (2012) - 6/10. Kind of like all Sebastian Gutierrez movies with lots of quirky dialogue between fivehundred semi-related, perfectly clichéd characters, but in black and white, because duh! film noir... it's right there in the title. Nothing makes much sense or is just too annoying to follow while Carla Gugino, Malin Akerman and Rosario Dawson are hot in it. Not bad.

Lords of Dogtown.
7.3 out of 10. Heath Ledger was great in it. Thought the guy who played Jay Adams did a good job too. The real Jay Adams just died last month.

Dracula - 9/10.
The original from 31. Back when vampires were dangerous and cool. They didn't do stupid shit like sparkle or sport mullets and acid wash jeans.

Agreed. One of the best, and I love Lugosi. Shame he never became the proper huge star he should have been. I guess studios just didn't know what to do with him so he got dumped into these god-awful B movies.

Why would I be referring to him, when we were just talking about Bela Lugosi? He's the coolest vampire.

Lugosi was great in the 1931 film, but there are several reasons why he never became a big star. He was severely limited by his Hungarian accent (which made his Dracula portrayal all the more creepy, as he was speaking English phonetically in the film) and he was typecast by the role. More importantly, Universal changed management in the mid-30s and dropped horror films from production for several years. They also preferred Karloff to him. Finally, Lugosi's chronic sciatica led to his morphine addiction (and later methadone addiction) which compromised his life in a major way.

Re: Rate the last movie you saw
I've never seen Christopher Lee as Dracula, so I don't know how good he was in the role.
But I still say Lugosi's the best. You people can suck it.

You're all spelling Max Schreck wrong.
Re: Rate the last movie you saw
Lugosi was great as Drac, very seductive without being a Twilight pussy. I watched it about a year ago. Still think Nosferatu is the best vampire ever.

I thought Lugosi was Romanian? No matter. I thought the accent added a lot mystery and dimension to the character. Shame it hindered him in real life.Ham Stroker's Ejacula wrote:Lugosi was great in the 1931 film, but there are several reasons why he never became a big star. When he was born it was Hungary. The same place is now in Romania. In or near Transylvania actually, which is funny.

Re: Rate the last movie you saw
Universal did not necessarily drop horror films during that period of time. They produced fewer of them and dabbled in sci-fi, but they were never churning them out like hot cakes even in the beginning. It only seems that way because their monsters became legendary.Ham Stroker's Ejacula wrote:Lugosi was great in the 1931 film, but there are several reasons why he never became a big star. Dracula 1931
Frankenstein 1931
The Mummy 1932
The Black Cat 1934
Bride of Frankenstein 1935
Werewolf of London 1935
Dracula's Daughter 1936
Son Of Frankenstein 1939 Bela Lugosi actually played Ygor in this film... And if you ever watch this look at the interior design of the house, especially the stair case. I don't know if he's ever said so, but I think Tim Burton drew a lot of influence from this movie
The Mummy's Hand 1940
Ghost of Frankenstein 1942
House of Frankenstein 1944
While they may have preferred Karloff they moved away from him because he became too expensive (not that he was, but they wanted to pay cheaper rates). They still employed him but he lost a few roles along the way because of money.
I have to disagree here...
Christopher Lee < Bela Lugosi. All day, every day

very cool to know the film has done so well to stay in the movie theaters all this time
makes me wonder what Favreau will do next
