Every fucking day of my life - 6/10 - I gave it a 6 because it's depressing and they're rednecks, it's a documentary about a woman who killed her abusive husband. Fucking weak ass justice system is all I've got to say bout that. Fuck abuse.

Ang Pagdadalaga ni Maximo Olivero (The Blossoming of Maximo Olivero) - 9/10
This is a Filipino film about a homosexual boy named Maximo (Maxi), who grows up with a family of bandits. Even though Maxi is gay, his tough brothers learn to accept him and the real story starts when Maxi meets a young cop named Victor, the story then finely develops. A really excellent film.
I don't get the hype. I thought it was funny only in spots, and labeling it as "unrated" for the dvd release is misleading. There's nothing in it I would consider unrating worthy. I don't remember seeing one bare titty, and the show wasn't that dangerous, not even enough for a R rating.

Derailed - 5/10 - Not a complete waste but if it wasn't for Clive Owen and Jennifer Aniston I would have fell asleep. Ever watch flicks and figure shit out in the first 20 minutes? The hints were like billboards, totally predictable.

Agreed.
Anyway
Elf - 9
I'm totally gay for this film. Gets me in the Christmas spirit.

Hell, I'm just a Bah Humbug motherfucker, and I love Elf.
Had some very funny parts, but I thought it would be funnier. One thing that I did think was great was that *I* could actually feel how uncomfortable some of these people were feeling, especially the redneck hunters. It was palpable.
Had a few lines that I'll steal, but that's about it.
After reading Bridget's befuddlement as to how to rate this movie, I thought I'd watch it myself.
Looking back at Bridget's comments, she was dead on. Even though this movie takes place in the Soviet Union, nobody even attempts a Russian accent. Most have English accents that are slightly askew.
Malcolm McDowell's Evilenko is an old man version of Gavin from The Kids in the Hall. It is downright eerie. With the exception of his voice, he is a dead fucking ringer for Gavin in this movie.
I thought the movie was pretty good overall but two scenes in particular took me right out of the movie. One was when he "hypnotized" the girl in the train station. I was like "Whoa, whoa, whoa...WHAT?" Did he have the power of hypnosis? I don't know because the movie never revisits this.
The second part was when the faux Russell Crowe guy (the magistrate) strips naked and grabs Evilenko's pecker. I don't know how shit worked in the former Soviet Union but this kind of confession wouldn't hold up in court here.
Bridget was also right about the actress who played the magistrate's wife. Awful. Like Fulci movie awful.
I thought one scene in particular--where Evilenko gets caught in the act of cannibalism--was scary as shit. And there were some creepy parts here and there. The child kidnapping parts were oddly not as affecting as they should have been. The kids seemed mildly confused but never really scared.
I liked it. For some reason, I enjoy films that take place in eastern Europe or Russia and if there's a thread of communism throughout, I'm even more delighted. I have no idea why this is, I just really like the atmosphere of that region and I think their histories are intriguing. The movie's photography really captured the bleakness of Soviet Russia well. Muted tones, grainy film--very nice look.
6/10

No shit - really creepy.

I find myself looking back on it fondly too, which is strange because when you dissect it, it doesn't have a lot to merit this.
