Six months? Well, at the very least, if November brings us to a Democrat-led Congress, those folks should force Trump to finally release all the returns he's promised.

The presumption of innocence is essential to the American legal system. Sometimes prosecutors and the press need to be reminded of this. It’s not as often that the allies of a defendant, or even a prospective defendant, forget.

Yet allies of President Trump have made some peculiar comments over the last few days, as Jonathan Chait, Josh Barro, and Orin Kerr note. Anthony Scaramucci says Michael Cohen would not flip on Trump because he is “a very loyal person.” Alan Dershowitz, enjoying a strange encore act as Trump’s most prominent legal defender, told Politico, “That’s what they’ll threaten him with: life imprisonment. They’re going to threaten him with a long prison term and try to turn him into a canary that sings.”

Turn on him with what, exactly? As Chait and Barro write, these people are at least aspirationally standing up for Trump, and yet their comments have a clear subtext of guilt. They all start with the premise that Trump has something to hide. You can’t flip on someone unless you’ve got something to offer prosecutors. Usually, the defenders of suspects in prosecutors’ cross-hairs loudly proclaim their innocence, and insist that the investigation will ultimately vindicate them. But Trump’s chorus is singing from a different hymnal.

It's no secret that Barbara Bush hated Trump, which is probably the main reason he's in Florida today, but could he at least be somewhat classier on the day of a former First Lady's funeral. This is the kind of thing that should resonate with the on-the-fence conservative Trump voters. This was a Republican First Lady. Your president is (likely) out golfing at his private club. I can't believe there's not more public or even media scrutiny about Trump filing an extension for his taxes. Not only is he the first President since his otherwise kindred spirit Nixon to not release his returns, but now he's filed an extension? Again, why? He's the President of the United States and his people couldn't get his taxes done on time? How are his taxes that complicated? What the fuck is/are he/they hiding? The New York Times reported on it, but I've heard almost nothing about it, otherwise.

Oh we do. Especially as he "promised" to release his prior taxes. Which he won't for I think are obvious reasons. He's not nearly as rich as he claims to be and the filings would show his actual debt. Though that's probably through Trump, Inc.

That said, I've been tempted to file for an extension myself (anyone who has several schedules and forms knows what I mean) and have many friends that do. This is not me defending BLOTUS, but the extension is not the hill to die on regarding this guy.
