Re: Rate the last movie you saw
The ending leaves the story open to tell other stories of The Zombie War (AKA World War Z), like "The Battle of Yonkers" from the book. I had heard their intention was to create a series of WWZ films incorporating different stories from the book.EatNails wrote:It wasn't bad, I just expected more carnage. There was another ending originally, which was deemed too harsh. The movie was supposed to come out back in December, but was scrapped to add the ending we actually saw.WyldOrchid5150 wrote:Really? Man of Steel - 1/10
What a total waste of time and money.
I had the feeling that if there actually were any good parts to this flick they were left on the cutting room floor...
It's so disjointed it doesn't make any sense.. from the bond with Lois that seemingly appears out of nowhere to the suit that he just pops on without warning.
Gotta love that the Dad withstood 100 mile an hour winds in the upright position until the tornado ran completely over the top of him. Random explosions without explanation... drawn out fantasy scenes and the "man of steel" himself is too weak to hold up a ship's mast.
At the end, I swear I heard George Reeves turn over in his grave and shoot himself again.

Compulsion - 4/10. Carrie Ann Moss as the actress who cannot eat, and Heather Graham as the chick who doesn't stop cooking. Very predictable, with scenes you see coming a mile away. Lesbian scene gets it the 4.

Man of Steel - 5/10 on second watch. I like that it wasn't the same ol story again. Most of the actors do well. However, there are some really stupid scenes, most notably the death of Jonathon Kent. Also, the second half of the movie feels like one big commercial. We get ihop, 7-11, Uhaul, and Sears. There was also a Nikon moment early in the film. These aren't random background shots, they're very much staged to get those logos in as much as possible. Director obviously went to the Michael Bay Endorsement school.

La cérémonie (1995) - 8/10. Awesome French thriller with Isabelle Huppert, who's awesome at acting stuff, and Virginie Ledoyen, who's awesome at being hot. It's like a serious version of Funny Games or something.

Man of Steel - 6/10. I heard they recouped $157 million in just endorsement/merchandising deals. It was okay but a lot of stuff didn't really make sense - after all that happened in Smallville and at the farm anybody could've figured out his secret identity. Also the aliens told the whole Earth that Lois Lane knows who Superman is. Looks like it made $200 million it's first week out and $200 million more the 2nd weekend, so I would say we can expect more of the same in the obligatory sequel.

Man of Steel - 9/10.
I absolutely loved this movie.
Not sure why a lot of people are so critical of every small detail. If you stop over-analyzing everything, you will simply see a kick-ass, action-packed comic-book flick.
World War Z - 6.5/10
I enjoyed this movie for the most part.....The first 20 minutes or so was great......but when it was all said and done.... I left the theater a just a bit underwhelmed.

*Minor Spoilers*
That was kinda the point. Pete Ross and some of the parents in town certainly figured out Clark was Superman, and Lois was no dummy, either. They didn't try to push the same eye-rolling "Gee, Clark is never around when Superman is" double identity story. They'll flesh out his "Clark Kent - Reporter" persona in sequels, I presume.
They're going a different route, a more "real-world situation" route, and I fucking dig it.

House at the End of the Street (2012) - 7/10. Pretty well acted for modern mainstream horror, story's nothing new but it's not insultingly generic either. Jennifer Lawrence and Elisabeth Shue are the ultimate FILF.

Open Your Mouth And Say... Mr. Chi Pig 7/10
A documentary on SNFU, and their singer Mr. Chi Pig. Sad story, actually. He got addicted to meth and lost his teeth, and pretty much all of his belongings. He looks like a bum on the street these days, which isn't too far from reality.
SNFU were one of the greatest live bands I've ever seen.

Les parapluies de Cherbourg (The Umbrellas of Cherbourg - 1994) - 5/10.
I usually like corny old musicals, but this one's hard to take. The entire dialogue is sung, but there aren't any actual songs. It's just one endless flow of random jazzy moaning without rhymes or rhythm that starts to feel like a parody about 30 seconds in. Catherine Deneuve is gorgeous, though.
