Profondo Rosso (Deep Red/The Hatchet Murders) - is this the film that made Argento the name in giallo? Maybe. Released in 1975. Brutal kills, vibrant blood and kooky camera angles. With yet another badass score by Goblin. 8.2/10

This is the Brian Wilson biopic. Both John Cusack and Paul Dano did a fantastic job portraying him. Was great to see Cusack in a major role again. The story was very sad but shed a lot of light on BW and I now have newfound respect for him. Every character was played perfectly. Paul Giamatti was great too.

A.I. (Artificial Intelligence) - 7/10
I picked up the blu-ray on the cheap, and hadn't seen it since it was in theatres. I have to say, it wasn't as good a film as I had remembered. It was good, but it could have, and should have, been so much more.
Jude Law was great as Gigolo Joe, and I think this is probably the last time Haley Joel Osment was in a movie before he got that weird disease where his head grew yet his face remained the same size.
I wish Kubrick had actually lived to see this film through, because I feel like it would be a totally different film and would most likely be remembered fondly rather than be the largely forgotten movie it has become in 2015.

Caché (2003) - 7.5/10 this is the first Michael Haneke film I've seen and it was pretty good. The ending could have used a rewrite.
Bullet (1996)- 6/10 a entertaining mid-90s Mickey Rourke b-movie, where he plays a Jewish low level gangster who can't go straight after getting out of prison. Tupac Shakur has a brief role as the villain. Good acting and direction make up for the silliness of the plot: A 45 year old Rourke portraying a 30 year old Jew who dresses like Ice T but talks like Rourke himself isn't as goofy as it sounds.
Kickboxer (1989) 6/10 - I saw this probably 50 times as a kid on TBS, but hadn't seen it 10-15 years. Van Damme can't act but there is something about him, charisma or charm, that makes these early movies entertaining. This movie has the infamous Van Damme Dancing Sequence that makes his two second sashaying in Breakin' look straight.

The Raid: Redemption (2011) - 3/10. Stupid modern martial arts movie with less plot than the UFC. At least kinda brutal and gory.
Shivers (1975) - 7/10. Probably wouldn't have recognized this as Cronenberg, but I liked it. The nurse was hot in it.

Awesome fun film, pisses all over james bond. And a great nod to Halo's 'grunt birthday party skull'.

Jurassic World - 6/10 - Not too bad really. It was almost a remake of the original one, but with a very modern twist. Maybe that was the plan, I don't know. The first movie had a rare kind of substance. This one is just silly. I've had a few good laughs so it's all good. The 3D was okay, nothing overly impressive.
So far I've liked everything Chris Pratt has done (Parks & Rec, Guardians of the Galaxy, ...)

pieceofme wrote:Conan the Destroyer - 6
I remember seeing this when I was kid thinking it was great. I figured it probably hasn't aged well and I was right. The fight scenes varied from ridiculous to entertaining enough. I guess after watching GOT, and more modern films, it is no surprise that the fight scenes in these movies are lacking. It was kind of boring as well, even with all the fighting. I recall the end monster being far more terrifying as well. Wilt Chamberlain was pretty convincing as a villain though. Probably spoiled my childhood memory watching this again.
A few years ago I helped my girlfriend babysit her nephews and we watched this movie as well as The Goonies. They loved both movies and I enjoyed watching them again as well. They tried to reenact scenes from Conan The Destroyer after it was over with their toy swords and shields. The movie is pretty hokey but when you are with kids who are enjoying something from your youth, the environment helps your judgement.
I still think Conan The Barbarian holds up.

No-No: A Dockumentary. 8/10. Very well done. Its too bad they didn't show more of the LSD no-no game. And it sucks that Dock never really got over Roberto's death while he was playing either.

Blind Turn (2012) - 3/10. Terrible thriller about some drunk driving accident revenge psycho. Nothing makes sense. Acting blows. Rachel Boston is the hottest ginge.
Would You Rather (2012) - 6/10. Torture horror flick like so many others, but pretty well done. Brittany Snow is hot in it. Hotter than that pig Sasha Grey, who's also in it. Also in it: Ricky from Sunnyvale.

Blacula - one million out of 10. The two gay dudes that released 'ol Blac should have won some kind of acting award. Those two guys were great Vampires and blaxploitation were a great combo.
William Marshall should have been a way bigger star than Sam Jackson.

I have to watch this again. Scream Blacula Scream was one of my all time favorite horror flicks back when I was a little kid sneaking up to watch late night TV. BTW Pam Grier was in it making it awesome.DSAB wrote:Blacula - one million out of 10. The two gay dudes that released 'ol Blac should have won some kind of acting award. Jupiter Ascending
It's a fun film, could watch it with the 12 y/o...I could watch it again. Visually beautiful, though I feel like it's made for a younger audience.
