Interstellar
4/10
A lot of potential but running time of 160 minutes doomed the film.
Story was erratic and the culmination was far too long

Schindler's List (1993) Liam Neeson was great but 3 hours and 15 minutes in black and white, still the ending was pretty moving and there's a lot of T&A 7.5/10

Whiplash - I was a bit skeptical going in , but it was a great movie. It wasn't preachy at all, and left judgement of the characters totally up to the viewer. 9.5/10 .

The first two thirds of the film was pretty entertaining, but then it got annoyingly stupid.

Captain America : Civil War 8/10
So, I won a gift card for the local movie house and tried to give it to the family, so I could have a nice, quiet Saturday.
They said I should go to the movies with them. We saw: Capt. America/ Civil War.
I ate a light breakfast and no lunch. The effects in this movie caused me to spend 25min. in the bathroom convincing myself not to throw up.
Seriously, I welcomed the dialog vs. action to keep me from being sick.

You gave an 8/10 to a movie that made you almost vomit. Very objective, I like it.jodi2 wrote:Captain America : Civil War 8/10

7/10
Too much film school overshooting of vistas and aerial shots, but the payoff is brutal and atypical Hollywood.

Re: Rate the last movie you saw
The movie did have a really well written plot and was well acted. I just can't handle some action sequences anymore. I don't know if it is the film speed or resolution or what? And I always sit in the far back of the theater too.Chip Z'Hoy wrote:You gave an 8/10 to a movie that made you almost vomit. Very objective, I like it.jodi2 wrote:Captain America : Civil War 8/10

The Artist (2011) - 7/10:
I had zero interest in the concept of a meta silent movie, but I like Jean Dujardin and Bérénice Bejo is hot as fuck. I was positively surprised by how easily I got sucked in. Then again, I had two bottles of wine with it.
Lucy (2014) - 4/10:
Apparently Luc Besson is making movies again, and he thought it a great idea to build this one all around the incredibly played-out and dumb-as-fucking-shit premise that humans only use 10% of their brains. Wow. Obviously a perfect vehicle for ditzy boobhooker Scarlett Johansson, who plays an involuntary drug mule who, through even stupider pseudo-science, turns into some sort of god who fights crime. Whatever. She's pretty hot and Besson knows how to make stuff look cool.
White Material (2009) - 8/10:
Great movie about a French family in some post-colonial country somewhere in sub-Saharan Africa who refuse to leave during a revolutionary militia movement. Isabelle Huppert is fantastic and the whole set-up seems perfectly realistic. It's rare that this subject is treated without resorting to any stereotypes.
Lola (1981) - 6/10:
Rainer Werner Fassbinder comedy dealing with small town corruption in post war Germany. Not bad, but I don't really get why this is considered such a classic.

The Nice Guys
8/10
I enjoyed this quite a bit. As an aside, right before the movie played, they had the whole put your cell phone away bit on screen at Cinemark. Within 5 minutes the idiot next to me had her phone out scanning facebook. So I put both my hands up to block the screen in an exaggerated manner hoping she'd get the hint. NOPE. Had to tell her to put it away 3 times. And she huffed away. I just don't get it. Why spend money to go see a movie if you just want to play with facebook? Just go to the diner or TGIF with your boyfriend and ignore each other there while on your phones.

If this was the famous Alamo Drafthouse theater, she would have been promptly ejected from the theater and, if I'm not mistaken, possibly even banned. It amazes me that people do their phone shit at the movies.EddieVanHeineken wrote:The Nice Guys

would be nice to see a movie manager escort the guilty party out of her seat, put the person on the banned list and never have to deal with that sort of customer again.

A sci-fi Groundhog day. It was really good, although the ending confused me, so I had to do some research online to make sure I understood why he went back so far, yet the Omega was defeated.

Lost Voyage (2001)
6.5/10
A Sci-Fi channel flick, though the version I saw was unedited in terms of language. A cruise ship goes missing in 1972 in the Bermuda Triangle and pops back up 28 years later with no one on board. The son of two of the passengers is recruited by a paranormal reporter to board the ship and find out what happened. Ghosts are involved and people die.
I had little hope for this one and only watched it because it stars Judd Nelson, Lance Henriksen, Mark Sheppard, and Jeff Kober which is like a b flick superteam. It turned out to be pretty decent with a nice creepy atmosphere. Sadly, the whole thing falls apart at the end with some horrible CGI and no explanation for what happened. We get Judd Nelson busting out some Bender like facial expressions, The Henriksen being a general badass dickweed, Sheppard being a cocky Irishman, and Kober overacting and raging at everyone. Recommended if you just smoked a fattie and have nothing better to watch around midnight.
