Kubrick's adaptation of the Nabokov novel. Disappointing to me. Way long and I hated the guy playing Humbert. Not sure why they put the ending up first either. Sue Lyon as Lolita seemed too old from the start, they really should have used different actresses for the reunion.

They had to raise the age of Lolita for the film. 1: because Sue Lyon was older and 2: because of Production Codes. Plus, a lot of films back then wouldn't have been able to be shown in theaters if the Catholic Legion of Decency didn't approve.

Production Codes ruined a lot of film adaptations of books.

"Baby Driver" - 8/10

I thought it was great. Most of it works, but the last third becomes a bit more of a typical action movie. Still, it's pretty stylishly written and directed, and the cast does a strong job. Now, that said, I wonder how many people have confused star Ansel Elgort with new Han Solo Alden Ehrenreich. :D

"Awakenings" - 10/10

Rewatched this one. Might be a perfectly-realized film. Incredibly moving, with some of De Niro's and Williams' best work. I'm usually, uh, cutting onions while watching it. Yeah, that's it, any tears are just from me cutting onions.

Actually not that many. Although I never quite know what's gonna hit me. And some movies or scenes in movies just do it to me every time. It mostly comes from the quality of whatever the movie is, but sometimes a movie just has sentimental value for whatever reason.

I posted before about how I can't not well up watching that scene from "Toy Story 2" with the Sarah McLachlan/Randy Newman tune. That whole thing is just masterfully done.

Pixar really knows how to pull at the ol' heartstrings, that's for sure. The beginning to Up, the courtship of the hibernating Eve by Wall-E, and the ending to Toy Story 3 are all great examples, too.

Poltergeist reboot/remake - 2/10

What a pile of crap, and a completely pointless movie that is inferior to the original Poltergeist in every way.

I went to see this in the theater. Made it 45 minutes and had to leave. Only the second movie I ever walked out on. Horrible movie. Too bad, though, I like Emily Blunt.
Read the book. Saw the movie in the theater. Then rented it when it came out. 9/10

Mid july means Christmas movies are starting to get played on TV

Had seen it in theatre but had to watch it again

Bad Santa 2(2016)Billy Bob Thornton, Tony Cox, Kathy bates, Christina Hendricks. 8/10 they did an awful job of disguising Montreal into Chicago, they left some huge french sign in plain sight, still its always fun to see so many familiar places in a movie

Awesome original Norwegian horror movie about a fictitious reality where the mythological troll actually exists and how the government is covering it up. It actually does not seem laughable and they even manage to make the "monsters" not appear one-dimensional objects of horror.
I enjoyed this as well
They should do an American remake where the trolls smell only the blood of Muslims. It's only fair.
there was going to be one directed by Neil Marshall (Descent/Dos Soldiers) but it was cancelled late 2016 apparently.
Probably because Marshall is English and didn't agree with your premise ;-)

Get Out 8/10 - pretty creepy shit going on there, very Stepford Wives-ish

A buddy just told me the same thing. The first movie came out 14 years ago. That kind of a time gap between movies is ridiculous. A sequel should have come out 11 or 12 years ago when the mojo from the first one was running hot.

The little hours
7.5/10

Entertaining little movie with john c reily, molly Shannon, Dave Franco, Aubrey plaza and the girl from glow.

War for the planet of the apes
8.5/10

When I saw the trailer for the first movie years ago with James Franco, I thought it was going to suck. Fast forward 6 years and I have to say, this is one of the best trilogies ever. Each film is really good. Andy serkis as Caesar is phenomenal.

9/10 for me. Agreed. It's rare to have quality this elevated across a whole trilogy.

The first film was about 7 out of 10. The second one was 5 out of 10. I'll wait until the third is released on Netflix before watching it.
