Last Exit to Brooklyn (1989) - 7/10:
Jennifer Jason Leigh is a hooker in some cartoon version (I hope) of 50s Brooklyn, where a bunch of workers are on strike and also closet homos. It's sort of political, but mostly Jennifer Jason Leigh is hot as fuck and has her tits out and gets gang-raped and stuff. Pretty, pretty good.
Cherry 2000 (1987) - 7/10:
Undeservedly forgotten gem with Melanie Griffith. It's sort of a Total Recall meets Mad Max in super trashy. None more 80s!
The Man Who Loved Women (1983) - 4/10:
You got Burt Reynolds, Kim Basinger and Julie Andrews in a tongue-in-cheek 80s comedy and somehow it still sucks.
Claire's Knee / Le genou de Claire (1970) - 6/10:
I've liked Éric Rohmer before, but this was boring after a while. It just seems pervy for no good reason, or maybe I didn't pay enough attention. The lolita character is decent, though.

I need to see this.TenBenny wrote:"Fences" - 9/10
Tremendous performances and a great script by August Wilson based on his play. Washington and Davis were two of five original performers brought to the movie from the Broadway revival. Sure it feels like a play, but Washington did a really good job adding visual and cinematic touches, keeping the camera moving enough to not end up with a static result.

Fences 2016 - 6/10. I liked that there isn't any race baiting. Great acting. I couldn't connect with any of the characters. I was also convinced that one of the lead characters was a white guy until he was called the N-word. Can you find a more white looking black guy in Hollywood?

"Live by Night" - 6/10
Not a classic, but better than critics have said. Solid acting and craftsmanship, but missing that certain thing that makes a great movie pop.
I should remind people that "The Founder" comes out tomorrow which is great. Inauguration Day is probably actually the perfect day to release a movie like this.

Is it entertaining? It's still sitting below 40% on rotten tomatoes. Critics rating doesn't usually stop me but the low user rating is making me think twice.TenBenny wrote:"Live by Night" - 6/10

Silence (2016)- 9/10- Saw this tonight. It really is the masterpiece as the critics have been saying. Very rarely do people make films with this level of philosophical sophistication, and that previously includes Scorsese too. Garfield and the Japanese actors are all excellent. The fact that it hasn't even been nominated for many pre-Oscar awards raises an eyebrow. It's sad that he won massive awards for mediocre gangster movie stuff like The Departed, but gets snubbed for something of substance.

Deliver Us from Evil (2009) - 7/10:
Sort of a Danish modern version of Straw Dogs. Realistic and pretty gruesome towards the end. Good statement against stupid immigrant phobia.
Body Double (1984) - 6/10:
Weird noir thriller with 80s trash flair about a big frame job on some naive dude who's spying on a neighbor doubled by a porn star. Confusing plot doesn't matter. Deborah Shelton and Melanie Griffith are hot, naked.
Another Day in Paradise (1998) - 5/10:
Melanie Griffith and James Woods act as junkie mentors to a super annoying retarded young couple. Melanie Griffith is pretty hot and there's Heroin, otherwise this sucks.
Transcendence (2014) - 3/10:
Johnny Depp is some A.I. genius who turns into a super computer or some shit. This is just blatantly pseudo-intellectual trash.

Split 6/10
Movie was pretty good, but the ending was disappointing. Cool cameo at the end, but not the type of ending I was hoping for. Would recommend on RedBox, Netflix, or HBO. Would no recommend paying to see it in a theater. Just not worth the money.

Lifeguard (1975) 8/10. Sam Elliot, Anne Archer
I had seen parts of this, but never seen the whole thing start to finish. Well it came on yesterday and I was able to catch it all. It's an outstanding snapshot of California circa mid 70s. The quality of the filming is really something special.
The plot is OK, mid life evaluation kinda stuff. Sam Elliot is good as always. The real star is the cinematography.
