Downsizing - 5

This film had potential, but unfortunately it really didn't go in the right direction.

A few laughs here and there. But it really went downhill at about the halfway mark. Basically after the wild party upstairs.

I saw it today. I'll give it at least an 8 or an 8.5. It's really good. A very expressive sort of magical realism story which is beautifully designed. All the actors do a pretty terrific job fleshing out the characters as written. And man, the movie really goes out there with some elements I definitely did not expect.

Bright - 5/10. (okay for a Netflix original movie)
The Last Jedi - 6 or 7/10 (all the reasons have been rehashed)
Dunkirk - 2/10 (most shittily boring Nolan movie I've ever seen)

The Imitation Game - 4/5

Watched it last night and didn't really know what to expect other than I thought it would have more war segments. Great movie. Horrible what happened to Alan Turing; And to think it was just in the middle of last century.

Why would you take away all the things that the movie is about? And the Wick films do it better than just about any other.

Darkest Hour - Excellent. Gary Oldman is one of my favorite actors, and this may be his best yet. Beautifully filmed, great score, and everyone brought their A-games, actingwise. A few historical inaccuracies here and there, but still a pretty great film.

Blumpkin King wrote:3 Billboards Outside Ebbing Missouri - 9.5/10 . Brilliant. It is just a fantastic movie. Go see it if you haven't already.

Downsizing - 2/10. I wanted to like it, but it's terrible. It is garbage. So dumb and boring and way too long. They leave spots for laughs that are just not there. Some of the effects are really awful. Every character is generic and the accents are super annoying. Alexander Payne should have to give his Oscars back for making this piece of junk.
"Downsizing" is apparently really disappointing. Reviews have been pretty mixed and anyone I talk to about it said it was lacking. One friend said there's a significant other main plot element that's not really mentioned in the trailer. That's too bad as Alexander Payne has a had perfect track record so far, and I was excited to see him collaborating again with Jim Taylor. But this sounds like a misstep.

Haven't seen it yet, but Gary Oldman is the finest actor of his era. I thought I heard the other day that he has never won an Oscar and if that's true, that's fucking bullshit .

Anyway, Mrs Lawless and I caught 3 Billboards outside Ebbing Missouri. Whether it's a play or a film, Martin MacDonagh doesn't disappoint if you're a fan of dark comedy, and this one was no exception.

Finally went to see The Last Jedi, and it was very good. It'll definitely divide the fans depending on how much of a Star Wars "purist" you are, but I thought it was just as good as the Star Wars movies before it. 10/10

CONVOY

Ernest Borgenine & Kris Kristofferson, at the top of their games.

And, Ali MacGraw as the film's prerequisite 'eye candy'.
