Showing up unnanounced at someone's house

Post by BDG135 »

Do you think it's rude to do this? How many friends/family are allowed to do this in your world? I know certain cultures are more accepting of people who drop by and will even feed them.

I don't even like friends (if I had any) or family showing up announced,.......... never mind "unannounced"............

Funny how this used to be the norm when we were kids. Don't think it flies now.

On another note...

I remember when we'd visit my aunt's house back in the '80s/'90s. My mom would just open the door. No knock or doorbell. Just walked in. Even back then I thought it was weird.

It seemed to be more prevalent before most people had cell phones. If they were out and about it would have been too much trouble going to a pay phone to call and see if it was OK to drop by.

Unless you're brining drugs or food, please leave us alone. Or at least call first. 8)

Impossibly rude. I mean, what if the missus and I are in the midst of getting freaky?

Someone rang the doorbell just last week and I never made one move towards the door.

Regardless of who it is, it is impolite and inappropriate to show up unannounced.

Finally got all the kids out of the house earlier this year. They all have their own places, SOs, careers. Yet, if they stop by, a couple text in advance. A couple do not. Pisses me off as it coincidentally occurs during an afternoon delight, and we’ll hear the garage door.

Fucking neighbors have a 10 year old grandson that visits them occasionally. He just comes over and bangs on the door. We don't answer. He comes back 10 minutes later. Finally, my wife will feel "bad" and answer. He'll just come inside and sit on the sofa...and stay for hours. I have to be the rude one and finally say...dude...we have tons to do. We'll see you again soon. Bye.

Then we resume watching TV.

Oh...his name is Jonah. I call him "The Jonah." Wife doesn't get it. She's not up on her King Diamond songs titles...

Yeah, not cool.
In two decades the only people I know who will still knock on my door usually at like 9:00 a.m. on a Saturday probably 4x a year are fucking Mormons. But I always spring out of bed see what's what, cuz you never know if there's an emergency or something

No one likes the 'pop in.'

I guess it's okay sometimes. This is a weird time, where you can easily contact any friend at any second, but often choose to be more distant than ever. Guess that's why I like the occasional throwback. Especially if they REDACTED
