Turns out she was right. The police are rubbish, it's obvious they couldn't keep her safe.

That said, the cops may be crap at keeping us safe, but for good reason. It's in their interest to keep crime up and incidents like this in media as that what gets them funding.
If they were any good at preventing crime and keep the public safe, half of them would lose their jobs. Do the math....

Edit: yeah, most would lose their jobs if they were really good at them, but only a tax funded state monopoly can suck that bad at their job and not get crushed by the competition and lose their jobs that way instead.
