So I finally watched MASH
I'd heard plenty of times what a great movie it was. Then I watched it. Was this supposed to be a comedy? I didn't laugh a single time. What a piece of shit movie. I can't imagine they made an 11 season running series out of this crap.

It's always struck me as weird that some very successful comedy shows were about subject matter such as field surgeons in the Korean war or a bunch of jokers living in a German POW camp.SchenkerFan wrote: ↑Sun Dec 17, 2023 12:29 pm I'd heard plenty of times what a great movie it was. How about a madcap comedy about all the shenanigans at the Shriners Children's Hospital?

Re: So I finally watched MASH
MASH was more "dark comedy". It wasn't about slapstick shenanigans. The main characters were civilian surgeons drafted into the Korean conflict. They were written as smart alecs, and that was where most of the humor came from. I don't remember the movie well, but the TV show dealt with some heavy war and mental health themes, death. I seem to remember a fair amount of emotional scenes in the show. The only thing I THINK I remember about the movie besides the actors was that it was drier than the TV show. Now After Mash (I think it was called) was garbage. It does crack me up that the show ran almost 4 times longer than the actual war.

I could never get into it. Maybe too young to enjoy hospital dramas at the time, although Pernell Roberts was a badass.

I think it’s funny that Radar was universally loved by the audience but the cast all hated him! He left near the end and wasn’t asked back for the final series or episode.
Re: So I finally watched MASH
Because it totally makes since for Radar to fly back to Korea. Plus, it would have eliminated the significance if his final scene with Hawkye, which was one of the more emotional scenes of the series.

The movie was more black humour, which wouldn't have translated well to the small screen. The series did have his fair share of heavy moments though.SchenkerFan wrote: ↑Sun Dec 17, 2023 12:29 pm I'd heard plenty of times what a great movie it was. Then I watched it. Re: So I finally watched MASH
It is well worth watching. Lots of funny people involved with it both on and off camera. If you dig it, Netflix did a spinoff series, Medical Police, which isn't quite as off the wall, but still funny.Turner Coates wrote: ↑Thu Dec 21, 2023 9:39 amWOW.woblinweebles wrote: ↑Mon Dec 18, 2023 1:25 pmI'm guessing you haven't watched Adult Swim's Children's Hospital: https://www.youtube.com/@adultswim/sear ... 20hospitalTurner Coates wrote: ↑Sun Dec 17, 2023 6:47 pm It's always struck me as weird that some very successful comedy shows were about subject matter such as field surgeons in the Korean war or a bunch of jokers living in a German POW camp.
