I think Obama will win in 2012 regardless of his lazy performance so far. The Republican party, although strong at the state level, has no national leaders that are worth a damn in a general election. If they get behind someone relatively young, with good experience, and not a straight party line Republican, they may have a shot.
If they can keep the discussion on the economy, Romney can win. He has a lot of the attributes needed to sell the job, plus he has financial expertise/experience falling out of his toe nails. Obviously his running mate will be hugely important.

It would definitely be contingent upon the economy staying shitty. His beliefs are a little out there, but then, a shitty economy helped the moderate vote swing toward Obama in spite his retarded religion and his well known shady friends. If the economy is shitty enough, the average person doesn't really care if you believe in Helm's Deep so long as you seem like you have ideas on how to get the job done.

Regarding the Clinton/Dole reference, it's sort of what Obama/McCain was, in a way; the shot was McCain's "gold watch". The Republicans didn't really want to win. They robbed the people/treasury for long enough and shit was about to get really hot, so they passed the hot potato to the Democrats.

The real question is whether the Republicans will actually start to be conservative and let a candidate be him/herself.

Sounds fine to me. Based on Christie's actions so far, I'd even take the ticket the other way around.

As much as it pains me to say this I believe Bush would win 2012. He always seemed to have that Us vs them following. It seemed the more hollywood trashed him, the more regular people loved him. I'm from the democratic machine that is Chicago and was surprised at how many people liked Bush. Obama got my vote last election, which is weird because I usually vote for a veteran. I just felt like we needed change. So far I have been very displeased with his presidency. I think he has been getting a taste of what its like when people point the finger at him. Just like he liked to do to Bush ie: always bringing up the "previous administration". After the BP debacle he has been taking alot of heat. Its not like he blew the oil well up. Just goes with the territory.

The reason some people(not just here but everywhere) are bowing out is because reality is finally starting to set in. Instead of the "hope" and "change" people drooled over, they essentially got a third Bush term instead. Some still think its change, but that has more to do with the stupidity of the public at large and not a reflection on him.

The Obama presidency will go down in history as one of the most bizarre. He runs on a mantra of change, continues the policies of his predecessor, has a huge majority in both houses, cant get enough support from his own party to really do much of anything and the people who supported these policies the previous eight years wont support him because he has a D next to his name. The only support he gets on these policies is from a public who hated the policies in 2000-2008. The funny thing is that he could have got more votes in the general election running as a republican, and would certainly have had more congressional support had he done so.

He was a lame duck the moment he took the oath of office.

All this "left wing, ultra liberal socialist" crap people spew is just that...crap. The U.S. has always had a foot in the pool of socialism, but anyone who thinks this guy is taking us over the cliff of socialism doesn't even know what the word means. We're actually closer to a fascist state which is pretty much the exact opposite of socialism.

The people who spew hatred towards this guy should love him. You got Bush again! Be happy! Those loving him should retract all their negative statements towards Bush.

As far as the thread topic goes, I would pick Bush but it doesn't really matter anymore as both parties are now bought off by the same corporations. You want to know what a Palin(or another republican) presidency would look like? Turn on the news or just walk outside. There's your Palin presidency.

The new boss in 2012 is going to be the same as the old boss. All the political arguing on the internet and tv is just a sideshow. It's just people on the same team arguing.

I meant this city is very liberal and always tends to vote for the Democrat no matter what. Most of my friends and relatives vote democrat. But for some reason most people I asked in 2004 voted for Bush. I'm from the Southside and my area is mainly city workers and union workers. A good chunk of city workers get those jobs because of who they know. In return the newly hired city woker has to go out and poll for some elected official come election time. In other words they better get as many people to voted democrat as they can. And the Union workers alway are supposed to vote Democrat because they supposedly help the unions. But i would say 75% of the people I talked to voted for Bush. Even some of the most hardcore Democrats voted for Bush. The reason I heard mostly was they were tired of everybody on tv telling them how to vote. Like when they would watch an award show and lets say Neil Young gets up there and starts preaching about the Evils of Bush. Another reason i heard was people felt safer with Bush. Now I am not saying they are right or wrong but that is what I heard. The same people also voted for Obama. It just seemed like people voted for Bush as a Fuck You and to go against the grain. I know one union in particular who was very upset that 65% of their membership said they voted for Bush. I hope I help clear up what I said.

THIS...SO MUCH THIS!

Right now I think we need to worry about getting some of the long term politicians out of office and set a limit on serving to two terms (same as the President) and then it is back to normal life, with a normal job and no more government perks, special interests or perks that the people pay for these people for life. No more multiple pensions for multiple positions, you get the pension of the last position you held. Period. No more spending two years of every term campaigning for the next election and ignoring the issues at hand. Two terms and done.

Once we have enacted these changes at a federal, state and local level we WILL BEGIN to see the change we so desperately need AND the President will be able to move forward with their actual campaign promises/plans.

As it stands, we are slowly, but surely, becoming "we the corporations" instead of "we the people" as was intended. The wealthy among us are using their business influence to entice our government to do their bidding...all the while they are the ones sucking the government tit dry.
