Ex-CBS reporter’s book on how liberal media protects Obama

Post by BlackCrypt »

Wow, when you get shunned by the hand that feeds you, all bets are off!!

Sharyl Attkisson is an unreasonable woman. Important people have told her so.

When the longtime CBS reporter asked for details about reinforcements sent to the Benghazi compound during the Sept. 11, 2012 terrorist attack, White House national security spokesman Tommy Vietor replied, “I give up, Sharyl . . . I’ll work with more reasonable folks that follow up, I guess.”

Another White House flack, Eric Schultz, didn’t like being pressed for answers about the Fast and Furious scandal in which American agents directed guns into the arms of Mexican drug lords. “Goddammit, Sharyl!” he screamed at her. “The Washington Post is reasonable, the LA Times is reasonable, The New York Times is reasonable. You’re the only one who’s not reasonable!”

Two of her former bosses, CBS Evening News executive producers Jim Murphy and Rick Kaplan, called her a “pit bull.”

That was when Sharyl was being nice.

Conservatives love quotes from people trying to sell books. And, they love Benghazi. It's like 9/11 x 1000.

She faked her "hacking" video, BlackCrypt. Tell us more about her journalistic integrity, please. Fucking tool.
http://crooksandliars.com/2014/10/buste ... cked-video
In a nutshell, Attkisson claims the government hacked her computers in December, 2012 and she reported it to CBS at the time. She claims a PC and her personal Mac were hacked, and the media has accepted this claim with no skepticism. Mediaite went with the assumption that she shot it in December, 2012.

Fox News, of course, is hailing her like a conservative heroine for being so bold as to take on the government.

Howie Kurtz quotes Attkisson's book:

Kurtz said that the book explains an anonymous source was called in to look at Attkisson's computers and was flabbergasted at both the extent and the sophistication of the hacking.

As evidence, Attkisson released this phone video she claims shows of the 'hack' in process.

Media Matters took on the assignment of debunking it, and their experts said it really just looked like the delete key was stuck.
Busted!

A sharp-eyed commenter over at Media Matters observed that Attkisson's video was shot during the Valerie Harper debut on Dancing With the Stars in September, 2013. Here's what WiscoJoe observes:

Attkisson shot this video on or sometime after September 16, 2013. The episode of "Dancing with the Stars" that is playing in the background features Valerie Harper dancing a Foxtrot to "Some Kind of Wonderful" and first aired live on the evening of that date.

According to Attkisson's own timeline her computer was 'hacked' in October 2012, she came forward with this allegation in May 2013, but then waited until September 2013 to take video 'evidence.'

Has Ms. Attkisson provided an explanation of when this video was taken or why she waited for a year, and until after she went forward with public allegations, to take video documentation of her computer being 'hacked'? Is this the standard of investigative journalism that she was doing while at CBS? If that's the case it may explain why she no longer works there.

Here are a few more questions to go with those. If you're hacked, do you leave your computer hooked up to the Internet while you're writing a book with what you allege is sensitive information about how the current administration has failed? Do you open up all of your research to said 'hackers' who you allege are from the very government that you are trashing in your book?

Why on earth wouldn't you turn over those computers to forensic analysts, and why on earth would CBS leave the work computer hooked up to the Internet and the internal company network after said hack was reported?

We are supposed to believe that Sharyl Attkisson was hacked by the government and just said, "Oops, I'm hacked!" while she went merrily along with no additional examination, security and a nine-month lag between when she originally believed she was hacked and when she shot the video?

Valerie Harper did debut on Dancing With the Stars on September 16, 2013 and she did dance to Some Kind of Wonderful. You can hear the intro on the cellphone video she shot.

Despite the fact that Mediaite and Politico uncritically assumed the video was shot in 2012, it's clear it was shot on September 16, 2013.

Also, shame on Erik Wemple at the Washington Post for his uncritical analysis of her reporting, too. Do any reporters actually read with a critical eye, especially when Attkisson has given no one good reason to trust her?

All we can also conclude is that on September 16, 2013, Attkisson either laid something on her delete key to simulate what she believed was what a hacked computer looks like, or else she had a stuck key on her machine which she assumed meant they were coming to get her and she used her phone to take a video while forgetting she had an instant date stamp playing in the background.

What a splendid indicator of exactly how much weight her book should receive. None. If she can't manufacture evidence without giving away the fix, she is not to be trusted on anything, whether it's vaccinations or it's Benghazi!

"Mediaite went with the assumption"

Yup, that seals it right there! Assumptions always work out for everyone.

Oh, wait, what is this here?

"More drama arises in September 2013. As White House officials pressure
CBS News executives over Attkisson’s Benghazi reporting, something goes
haywire with her computer. “That very night, with [White House spokesman
Eric] Schultz, [White House Press Secretary Jay] Carney and company
freshly steaming over my Benghazi reporting, I’m home doing final
research and crafting questions for the next day’s interview with
[Thomas] Pickering. Suddenly data in my computer file begins wiping at
hyperspeed before my very eyes. Deleted line by line in a split second:
it’s gone, gone, gone.” Attkisson grabbed her iPhone to record the
madness."

Computer Security Experts: Attkisson Video Of Purported "Hacking" Likely Just A Stuck Backspace Key

Computer security experts say that a video released by former CBS News reporter Sharyl Attkisson appears to show her computer "malfunction[ing]," likely due to a stuck backspace key, not being hacked by government agents as she had suggested.

In her new book Stonewalled, Attkisson claims that both her personal Apple laptop and a CBS News-issued Toshiba laptop were hacked in late 2012 while she was reporting on the Benghazi terrorist attacks. In June 2013, CBS News confirmed that the CBS News computer was breached, using what the network said were "sophisticated" methods. According to the book, unnamed sources confirmed for Attkisson that an unnamed government agency was behind the attack. She also claims that she has submitted her personal Apple laptop to the Department of Justice's Inspector General for additional review.

On October 31, Politico reported that Attkisson had released "a video she took with her cellphone of one apparent hack" of her personal Apple laptop. The video shows words typed into a Microsoft Word document rapidly disappearing. During the video, Attkisson's voice can be heard saying she's "not touching it," as the camera pans down to the keyboard. As Politico reported, "There is no way to confirm from the video alone that a hack is actually taking place, and there's reason to doubt that Attkisson was hacked at all," but "Attkisson's decision to release the video suggests she plans on using it to make her case."

Computer security experts who reviewed the video suggested to Media Matters that it seemed to show the results of a stuck backspace key rather than hacking, and said the government and other sophisticated hacking enterprises were unlikely to use such methods.

Matthew Brothers-McGrew, a senior specialist at Interhack Corp. in Columbus, Ohio, said that sometimes computers "malfunction, a key can get stuck, sometimes dirt can get under a keyboard and a key will inadvertently be held down." He explained that sometimes there can be software issues "where the computer will think a key is held down in fact it is not," and said that his firm tested holding down the backspace key on a computer in their offices, and found "if you have Word open it will continually backspace text at about the same rate we are seeing in the video."

Brad Moore, also a senior specialist at Interhack Corp., agreed, noting, "From what we looked at and what we were able to replicate, from that piece of video we don't see what we would call evidence of hacking. There are multiple explanations and we were able to demonstrate quickly and easily one possibil[ity], the backspace key."

Peter Theobald, computer forensics investigator with TC Forensics in Syosset N.Y., said that while he would not be "terribly surprised to find out that someone in the government could or would hack her," he also did not think the video proved "anything."

"If a hacker were to infiltrate her laptop and delete her files there would be better ways to do it, it wouldn't be so obvious to her," Theobald said. "It did not look like a hacker attack to me."

All of the experts agreed that hackers would more typically use other methods to delete documents from a computer.

"The way to do it wouldn't be to hold down the delete key," explained Sam Plainfield, of Syntax Technical Computer Forensics in San Francisco, which is what he thinks appears to be happening in the video. Instead, "you wouldn't see a visual indicator that files are deleting, [they are] just gone."

Brothers-McGrew noted "in our experience if you have the ability to be able to access and submit keystrokes on someone's computer, you generally have system level access where you can just delete or modify the file yourself. The user would not ordinarily see what is going on."

He added, "If the government were in there they would most likely be doing it without making themselves known."

Theobald concurred, saying that the government "would be able to access the files on her hard drive and manipulate and delete them without having to remote control her screen and keyboard while she is sitting at the keyboard."

“A cyber security firm hired by CBS News has determined through forensic analysis that Sharyl Attkisson’s computer was accessed by an unauthorized, external, unknown party on multiple occasions late in 2012. Evidence suggests this party performed all access remotely using Attkisson’s accounts. While no malicious code was found, forensic analysis revealed an intruder had executed commands that appeared to involve search and exfiltration of data.

This party also used sophisticated methods to remove all possible indications of unauthorized activity, and alter system times to cause further confusion.

CBS News is taking steps to identify the responsible party and their method of access.”

late in 2012
Not September 16, 2013? Interesting.
Eugene H. Spafford, a Purdue University professor and specialist in computer security, said that Attkisson’s initial statements about computer intrusions left open a wide field of possibilities, from viruses to botnet activity to acquaintances to criminal gangs to the government. The Erik Wemple Blog asked Spafford for his take after looking over the CBS News statement. “The details given are too sparse to really be able to say anything new,” he responded.

Or, some poor management at Columbia Broadcasting System. Or aliens. Until the whole story comes out and not all the speculation, guess we will never know!

The CBS report you cited as proof doesn't cover this. Like I said before, bullshit on the video "proof".

You tried to prove the video was a fake because of when it was recorded. Now you know that was wrong.

So it's really proof she was hacked by Uncle Sam as she claims?

She claims she was c-blocked by CBS on the White House's say-so and she compares her situation to Watergate? That sounds a lot like a conspiracy to me. Now you're gonna backpedal?
