Big week for the Cubs. Pirates and Giants. Not necessary to sweep either of them, of course, but winning both series would be huge.johnk5150 wrote:The Giants need to lose some games.

Jon Lester wants the Cubs to "play stupid down the stretch."
I saw it with the Rays in 2008,” Lester said. “They were naïve to the situation. They had nothing to lose. We have nothing to lose. We’re not supposed to win. We’re supposedly still in the rebuilding stages.
“If we make the playoffs, that’s just an added bonus. I like that. I like (how) we’re not really the underdog, but we’re (also) not really expected to do anything.”

Their series is going to be good with SF, it's almost a do or die matchup. Both teams have been hot but SF's flaws are exposed and the Cubs are coming into their own.UtahRatt wrote:"Bucs to Cubs: Your streak stops here"

I'm not really contributing to this thread with this post. I will say though I think the Cubs found their swagger. That team is soooo good. I think the remainder of the season the league is going to learn just how good they are.

Joe Maddon admits he didn't wash his socks during 9 game win streak. He says the socks "were super absorbent so it was fine." I'll bet he's got a gnarly case of athlete's foot though.

Re: The Unofficial "The Cubs Don't Suck Anymore" Thread!!
Speaking of the Cubs and finding their swagger. I came across this y'all might dig.
Cubs president Theo Epstein continues to have the golden touch, but he may have been wrong about one thing. This spring, he told B/R the only negative he saw with the Cubs' collection of young talent is that they were surrounded by so much hype that they "risk missing out on that opportunity to surprise people, where they can have that season where they sneak up on teams and at the end of the year, people look back and say, 'Wow, they were better than I thought they'd be.'"
The Kansas City Royals were that team last summer.
"That might be gone now, and that's fine," Epstein continued during our spring talk. "It's good to hold the organization accountable, hold me accountable to the highest expectation. But individually, I'd like our young players to be afforded a little bit of patience and have a little bit of time to find their games. Because it takes time to find your comfort level as position players in the big leagues."
In a way, that's exactly how things have played out.
Joe Maddon on not changing his socks during the streak.
"Are you superstitous?" "No." Maddon grinned "I'm just a little bit stitious."
That was a reference to the 'The Office,' and that's a good show.

I don't think the Cubs have much of a swagger, it's like they've been biting their nails the last few weeks knowing they've actually reached a one Wild Card game. They've been rather quiet........
If it wasn't for Arrieta I'd already be planning to watch the Pirates vs the Cards. But this is the Cubs were talking about. They should be confident if not happy they've come this far!

I called a psychic hotline, the woman said the CUBS will do good tomorrow. I had to pin three voodoo dolls to combat her spell.

I put my money on Cole and the Pirates tonight.
Re: The Unofficial "The Cubs Don't Suck Anymore" Thread!!
Not sure about that move, one thing I wouldn't do is bet against Arrieta, he's been dropping the bottom out of the planet since August. You talk about pitchers getting calls just out of the zone, Arrieta paints the bottom so close he gets a lot of calls that nip just out of the box because every pitch is with in inches.Machado wrote:I put my money on Cole and the Pirates tonight.
I watched him destroy the Philly's or maybe it was the Red's a month or so ago and he got a ton of calls just out of the zone because every pitch was on the line. He's overdo for a belting, a slip but until then he's lights out. Ya I'm a LAD fan with Clayton and Greinke but I might have to go with Arrieta right now. Guess we'll see in another hour but I think the Cubs got this game.
JINX!

YES! Steve Bartman to the rescue, he'll bring them bad luck! Great news!
Congrats on making it to the playoffs Cublings, they're a hot team I wouldn't wanna face but I'm still pulling for them to sink. Maybe if I supported them they'd lose.
Go Cubs! I've really just been joking and been a fan all this time.

At least I have the balls to make a play. You continue to watch from the sidelines, afraid to get into the game.
Just stay there. Be safe and you won't get hurt.
