Anybody Use A Pressure Cooker??

Postby Drunk Kennedy » Wed Sep 13, 2017 8:00 am

So I remember my mom making dinner in a pressure cooker all the time when I was a kid back in the 70's...and that shit was always pretty nasty. I havent seen or heard of people using them for anything other than making IED's for decades. So a friend of mine comes in to work the other day with an AMAZING Russian Stroganoff...and to my shock she make it in a pressure cooker!!

Im now finding out about Insta Pots that are a mutifunction kinda deal. Just curious if anyone uses them here and if they have made improvements on them since I last had a meal cooked in one. All i remember is stringy, chewy meat.

So,,,pressure cookers / insta pots...worth the money?

My best friend swears by hers.
I'm of the same belief as you, that 70's crap was nasty!
I guess this thing can replace a crock-pot, rice cooker, and can also pressure cook.
I'm not crazy about things that should be slow cooked, cooked any other way, so I'm skeptical, but she insists on buying me one for my birthday next month, so we'll see.
I did get one cool little gadget that I would never have believed worked, but it awesome!
Cuisinart Egg Central!
You can boil 10 perfect eggs at a time.
You can make a 3 egg omelette, which is something I have never been able to do. I can't turn omelette's in a pan so it always ends up scrambled eggs!
You can also poach eggs in it, which I have never even attempted, but in this thing they are perfect every time!

I've got a big one for canning (23 qts). Have thought about getting one of the smaller ones for things like collard greens or tough meat.

My memories of them back in MO is my family taking perfectly lovely fresh green beans and cooking the ever lovin' shit out of them in one (with bacon).

Pressure cookers are great for meats like pulled pork and pulled chicken, quick soups and chili, artichokes and Brussel sprouts. Pumpkin for pie, all kinds of veggies, etc. I love mine and use it all the time.

Brussel sprouts! Do you cut the X in the base or just toss them in?

Cut some of them in half for variety, throw them in after cooking the bacon. Cook on high for four minutes, open 'er up, stir in a tablespoon each of butter and mustard, then season with a bit of garlic salt and dill.

That sounds delicious. I kind of do that, but I add chestnuts, too. But it's bit of a pain, because I have to blanche/boil the sprouts first, with the X carved in the base and then drain them and move them to the bacon pan and saute all the stuff in that pan.. The pressure cooker is looking better by the minute.

Just buy a new one. The Tsarnaev boys aren't going to return the old one.

Didn't know you were a big cook. Don't recall you sharing any cooking advice in the cooking thread!

It actually didn't cook because he didn't start the fire.
