Settle it now. VOTE! Which decade was the best?....
You've got...
The 40s... Frank Sinatra, Benny Goodman... jazzy, dopey shit...
The 50's... "Rock Around the Clock"... Buddy Holly... Arthur Fonzarelli-type stuff, whatever....
The 60's... The Beatles, Stones, all the shit we saw in Mad Men... "Let's do the twist"... let's do brown acid...
The 70s... Kiss, Queen, David Bowie, Barry Manilow... lots of schmaltzy ballads... "Riders on the Storm"... Secret Life of Plants... Zeppelin too.
The 80s... Miami Vice theme... U2, Bon Jovi, Jodi Watley, Pet Shop Boys... THRILLER!... Al Jarreau's "Moonlighting" song...
The '90s... Started with "Cherry Pie" and Wilson Phillips... continued with grunge... ended with Garth Brooks and whatever...
Twenty something, something.... Ariana Grande, Drake.... rap... DJs.... EDM... Who gives a fuck?

Didn’t do a good job selling the 80’s but that is the correct answer.

I voted the seventies. I was very young then, so 80`s was my decade, however everything from the carpenters to progressive rock bands make the seventies superb for me. I do like melody.

80s win. Hard rock was maybe better in the 70s with Sabbath, Priest, Coop, Purple, Zep etc but 70s pop sucked compared to the 80s. except for ABBA who sounded like they were from another decade anyway.BulletProofPoet wrote: ↑Sat Jan 06, 2024 9:41 pm Didn’t do a good job selling the 80’s but that is the correct answer.

80’s was happiest/funniest!
Re: Settle it now. VOTE! Which decade was the best?....
I'd go 90s.
You still had a couple years of hairbands.
I loved the alt rock 90s bands
Grunge.
Some great rap and country
I would miss the classic 80s pop music though

Obviously the 80's, though 1990-1992 had some great music that was still an extension of the 80's sound. Overall, though, everything was better in the 80's: the music, movies, television shows and cartoons, and even the fashion trends and pop culture moments. There'll never be another decade like it, unfortunately.

Re: Settle it now. VOTE! Which decade was the best?....
As long as we stick to those things, yes. But the 80s was also the last decade of the Cold War and Communism, there was the Chernobyl disaster, and terrorism in Europe with even a prime minister (Swedish) murdered. And the economy was crap except for a year or two towards the end of the decade. The 80s were, looking back, very much an extension of the 70s.
The 90s was a different beast and easy to feel lost in if your "normal" was 1970-89 but pretty good looking back. We lost hair metal but got the internet boom and affordable air travel. Not the worst trade-off and you still had your old cds.

They could indeed " shred " if they wanted to, but that wasnt the thing then. I can shred and I am not professional.

My son is doing his own deep dive in the 70's and turned me onto this band. We were vinyl shopping over the summer and he found this LP and freaked out. I was like, "who?" There's soooo much good shit out there that we've never heard.

Really depends on the genre. Thrash peaked in the 80s. Some great prog as well. For blues-based Hard Rock, it's hard to match the 70s.

You should vote for the 60s then. Because without the 60s, there would be no 70s!
