Did anyone buy this album in 1986 thinking "Shot Through the Heart" was "You Give Love a Bad Name"?

I know a few years ago a sludger got confused with the two. It was a top 5 bon Jovi song thread and the poster who has a gnome taking a crap as an avatar said shot through the heart was one of his favourites. Someone chimed in saying you would think he would know the name of one of his favourite bon Jovi songs.Chip Z'Hoy wrote: ↑Mon Jan 22, 2024 4:50 pm Did anyone buy this album in 1986 thinking "Shot Through the Heart" was "You Give Love a Bad Name"?
But to answer your question, probably...

Yep, that was me, I forgot about that... that was funny, but yes, "Shot through the heart" still is one of my fave BJ songs ever.pieceofme wrote: ↑Mon Jan 22, 2024 6:35 pmI know a few years ago a sludger got confused with the two. Re: Bon Jovi 40th Anniversary
Down here in Oz, I used to see adds for it in Circus and Hit Parader mags.
I ordered without ever hearing but was ecstatic when I got it and it was great.
I told everyone I knew they would be huge, took another two albums but I was proved right.
Saw them twice, on tour for Slippery and then New Jersey.
Great shows, high energy and fun, which is what any show should be about.
I rarely listen now, my tastes have changed, but I might make a playlist of the first four albums for work tomorrow.

Wow, I'm surprised they even acknowledged it! Cool!SexxAtraxxion wrote: ↑Wed Jan 24, 2024 8:21 am New deluxe edition released on streaming platforms

Jon or whoever even mentioned it on their facebook page:

It's funny how thrown together that album actually was if you break it down.
Jon had Runaway that was a stand alone single.
Shot Through the Heart is actually a cover song. And so it She Don't Know Me.
Then I'm guessing the rest are the very first songs that Jon and Richie wrote together.
It's VERY hard rock compared to what Jon was doing previously. Check out any of the "Power Station" compilations out there. It was good stuff but very pop/light. Rick Springfield kinda pop/rock.
"You want Don Juan DeMarco, the world's greatest lover, to talk to you? What do you know of great love?"
Re: Bon Jovi 40th Anniversary
The liner notes say that Jon wrote "Shot Through The Heart" with Jack Ponti. There are also two songs Jon wrote with David Bryan (Rashbaum) the keyboardist.DonJuanDeMarco wrote: ↑Wed Jan 24, 2024 10:11 amWow, I'm surprised they even acknowledged it! Oh man.. my Bon Jovi memory is getting cloudy! I still think the record feels very pieced together. Like they had one song (Runaway) and scrambled to put together an album around that single.

Re: Bon Jovi 40th Anniversary
That's probably the case. Jon was offered a deal after Runaway was a hit on the radio and put the band together after that. Dave Sabo was outed and Richie came in.DonJuanDeMarco wrote: ↑Wed Jan 24, 2024 12:17 pmOh man.. my Bon Jovi memory is getting cloudy! I still think the record feels very pieced together. It was only like 5 years ago I found out Tim Pierce, and not Sambora, is the one playing guitar on ”Runaway”:

And Hugh McDonald played bass back then already.
Great album nevertheless!

Re: Bon Jovi 40th Anniversary
Jack Ponti liked to try his songs out in multiple bands hoping for a hit, like with the song Desperate.
