Re: AC/DR'S two best records
That would be a good thread though, favorite two AC/DC albums. That would be hard to figure out between Powerage, Highway to Hell and Back in Black. In that order, so BiB doesn't quite make the top 3. Bon Scott makes the difference. This thread confirms that AC/DC may have the worst catalog for a h...

Re: AC/DR'S two best records
Back in Black doesn't get a lot of praise on here because we're all sick to the back tooth of it, like Hysteria or Escape but it's important to remember that there is a reason that every damned song in BiB is a radio cut. That said, for me, it's Powerage and Flick of the Switch.

Re: Dana Strum recounts Ozzy/Randy audition
Prior to Vinnie Vincent invasion, what was Dana Strum known for? How was he so well connected? The band he was in in the 1970s, Bad Axe, did "ok" on the strip and played alongside the likes of VH, QR, etc. Strum auditioned for Ozzy but although he didn't make the cut he obviously hung aro...

Re: Does anyone know for sure what happened with Dan Nelson and Anthrax?
You can do John and Joey stuff.' And I was, like, 'Wow! Cool.' And they were, like, 'You wanna do ANTHRAX instead? And we'll get a bass player.' And I said, 'What about the bass player you've got?' And they were, like, 'We'll talk about that.' And then one thing led to the next, and it became ANTHR...

Re: Does anyone know for sure what happened with Dan Nelson and Anthrax?
Nope, he left twice. Basically, Dan and Frank got in a fight, and Frank was like, "I'm done". They were working on what would eventually be Worship Music at the time, and Vera played a handful of shows with them again in 2008. Then when Dan got fired a few months later, Frank came back. T...

Re: RIP ... WKRP in Cincinnati star Loni Anderson, Dead at 79
Loni wasn’t on it, but out of curiosity, does anyone remember “The New WKRP In Cincinnati”? Vaguely. I think I stumbled upon a couple of episodes when it came out, but it didn't make much of an impression on me. I loved the original show, but hate the fact that songs used in the series no longer ap...

My work commute is only 15 minutes so this won't have a huge impact on me but it's hard to imagine radio w/out him. Like tv w/o Letterman. It creates a vacuume but you just move on. No one under 40 knows who Howard is.

Before cable was widespread there was satellite TV. I mean REAL satellite TV. Not trash like Dish Network or DIRECTV. I'm talking that HUGE dish that only bars and "well-off" people had. You could catch all kinds of stuff on those things. Hardcore porn, sports and all kinds of crazy chann...

Both have over-toured. Who that wants to see Alice Cooper hasn't already? Same with Priest. It's not like you'll get a radically different setlist than the last time you saw them. Or a very different stage show. With Priest you do get a radically different setlist as it's Painkiller anniversary. 7 ...

My grandma would send me to the corner grocery to get her smokes (L&M) and beer (PBR) and they would give me a "near beer" (Kingsbury, they'd tear a can off the 6 pack ring) and a box of candy cigarettes for my trouble. My grandma and the clerk would be arrested now. I grew up a few mi...

Re: Billy Joel "And So It Goes" Documentary on HBO Max
Finished the documentary. He comes off as a mostly sad man who never could really enjoy his success (or relationships) or even songwriting! and had a pretty bad drinking problem for many years. And, now, worst, of all has young kids with wife No. 4! But he was a much better pianist than I ever knew...

I got to see Elton 5 x, Billy Joel 2x, Macca 2x, The Who 4x, the Stones 2x, AC/DC 4x, Ozzy 4x, Aerosmith 2x...I guess I had it pretty well. I have a few friends that saw Elvis when they were kids. I know 2 people that saw the Beatles. One of those is now dead.

He's just a goofy-looking try-hard who hung in there and ground his way up to the top at a time when it was still possible to do that. Yetnikoff probably paid those classic rock jocks a ton of money to play his records, because whatever his music is, it ain't rock. Has a handful of cool tunes but a...

The two MCA albums helped get him back on stage and in the press but didn't sell particularly well and aside from Heavy Metal Mania and Z-Rock didn't really do much at tv and radio. Trash got the mainstream airplay and got Alice his first Platinum since WTMN. "Poison" is still on regular A...

I've seen them as direct support and that seems to be a place where they can shine. 55 minutes of all hits and they pretty much win the crowd over. Couldn't imagine a 75 minute headline set from them.

Not necessarily a "hair band" but Little Caesaer opening for KISS in 1990 comes to mind. For whatever reason, Winger couldn't do a few shows in the midwest and they moved Slaughter up to direct support and had Little Ceaser has special guests. They were 100x better than Slaugher for whatev...

To me and my high school buddies at the time it was a big deal. Why? Do you remember the interviews in magazines like Circus or Hit Parader at the time? Wouldn't it have been cool if they had written some songs together? I don't even remember how we found out. I'd guess it would have been the magaz...

Re: 1988 Geezer back with Ozzy, was it a big deal for Sabbath fans back then?
They tried to make it a big deal... but that album blew. Yes, it was weird that he did not play on the next album, after the tour The other thing to consider back then was that Black Sabbath was sooooo far gone from the collective mainstream interest that it wouldnt have mattered if Ozzy had hired ...
