Re: Rate the last movie you saw
In the Heart of the Sea. 8\10. Great film not deserving of the bad reviews it's getting. Whatever. Basically, the backstory of Moby Dick with the always grand Hemsworth playing the lead. Very gruesome whale slaughter scene, but no reason to sanitize the act. It was a bloody mess. Also, movie shows ...

Re: Rate the last movie you saw
THE WOLFPACK. An aimless, ugly, poorly "thought out" documentary about a group of seven children that were raised indoors with very little contact to the outside world. It had potential, but... it was squandered. The endless and repetitive attempts to make this weird kids seem even more we...

Re: Rate the last movie you saw
Creed. 7.5/10. Acting was great and story was good. I think mentioning this movie in the same breath as the Academy Awards is quite ambitious. It was good but far from being an Oscar contender. I think the camera work and the editing are both worthy of at least being nominated. Those fights (especi...

Re: Rate the last movie you saw
Bram Stoker's Dracula (Francis Ford Coppola). I give it a solid "A". Glad I finally saw it. The narrative is a mess, but... the photography and the tone are both completely unique. It really does feel like another time and place. No Escape (John Erick Dowdle) starring Owen Wilson and Lake...

The Gift (Jason Bateman and Joel Edgerton)
I thought it was going to be one of those silly horror movies like Sinister and/or The Purge or whatever, but I was mistaken. It's a "real" movie.
It's very much an above average thriller.
8/10

Re: Rate the last movie you saw
Boogie nights (1997) A classic 9.5/10 What a truly truly excellent film. There are so many brilliant lines in that movie that feel improvised and unscripted... which is the mark of a truly great screenplay (and a great performance). "I think she did too much coke." -"Oh. Do you think...

Re: Rate the last movie you saw
The Martian was quite good. It was quite long, but... I was entertained the entire time. The plot is something you've seen a 100x before (guy is stranded, needs to find clever and atypical ways to adapt his surroundings to prolong his survival). It's delivered at a brisk pace and it never feels bori...

Re: Rate the last movie you saw
Z FOR ZACHARIAH (Directed by Craig Zobel. With Chiwetel Ejiofor, Chris Pine, Margot Robbie) This is an A+ all the way. There are only three characters in movie…. although a strong case could be made that the cinematography is the fourth character. This film is gorgeous. In short; the film begins sev...
