Re: Kiss in the 80s
Any of you Kiss fans start getting into them in the 80s? Maybe you prefer that era. What are some of your favorite songs from that period? I first heard KISS in 1976 ("Shout It Out Loud") and purchased "Destroyer" in 1977. There are lots of great songs from the '80s: "Easy ...

Re: Did Gene Simmons or Paul Stanley ever successfully make someone's career?
The answer is no one. Gene's version of discovering VH has been debunked down to maybe recording a demo, and that's it. Desmond took off because a disco-rock song took off. Indirectly, Paul jump-started his renowned career, but it wasn't Paul's doing. Desmond co-wrote (or probably mostly wrote) the...

Re: Did Gene Simmons or Paul Stanley ever successfully make someone's career?
If bands they took out as opening bands count, the list grows: Judas Priest, Bon Jovi, Rush, Mötley Crue and Iron Maiden all opened for Kiss shortly before they themselves became arena headliners. And that's just off the top of my head. Maybe Slaughter too, but their successful career didn't last v...

Re: Did Gene Simmons or Paul Stanley ever successfully make someone's career?
Desmond Child? This is the answer to who had the most success after working with KISS first. I mean, you could argue that VH takes the cake, but Desmond Child does have writing credits on BOYS NITE OUT, so hey. Also, not that it's much related, but Bryan Adams' career went absolutely nuclear shortl...

Re: Did Gene Simmons or Paul Stanley ever successfully make someone's career?
Desmond Child. It's possible if Paul didn't ask him to work with him and co-write I Was Made For Loving You, he might have never been brought to the attention Bon Jovi, Aerosmith, Cher, Ricky Martin, Alice Cooper, Michael Bolton, etc. Good answer. Even when he co-wrote Heaven's On Fire he was still...

Re: Judas Priest going to a 4 piece was all Rob's bonehead idea
All this stuff about how he thought it would be more powerful is BS. They much more likely thought it would be a great way of cutting costs and clearly had no idea how strongly fans felt about Judas Priest having 2 guitars.... With KK out of the band, there's more money in Rob's and Glenn's pockets...

Re: Tribute Bands
I just got back from seeing Brit Floyd, a Pink Floyd tribute band that tours and puts on a big production. The show was phenomenal. They are great musicians, they sound just like Pink Floyd, and they have the visuals to match. This is the first tribute band I have seen, and it made me wonder what o...

I don't think Ace would have done well in the early/mid 80's with KISS with these guys being in vogue at the time Van Halen Lee Rhoads Demartini to a degree although never known as a shredder among many others like Gillis.... I didn't mind Vinnie free styling on Ace's solos and riffs but I get why ...

Re: Band lineups you wish would have gone on for longer
Jungle was only popular on airplay (for two weeks) because people remembered who KISS were after the reunion. Was so odd releasing that after the reunion tour. "Jungle" received airplay because it's a good song and people liked it. Mercury wanted to recoup the advance that they gave to Pa...

Sorry for the delayed response as sometimes I don't come here for a week or so. Although I see what you are saying in terms of him not being a fan I do believe he was capable of playing in the style of Vinnie and the other fast players of that era which Gene and Paul were seeking. KISS to me anyway...

Re: Band lineups you wish would have gone on for longer
IMO, shredding is not KISS-like at all. KISS needed a rock guitarist, not a heavy metal guitarist. They were never a metal band, although some of their songs are metal or at least metal-ish. When Mark was fired, Bruce was the guy, because he could be flashy, but that wasn't the only thing in his ba...

I know I'm in the minority on this one but I would have liked one more album with Mark St John just too see what he could do as I love the guitar sound on Animalize. I mean how bad could he have been if Grover Jackson himself brought him to KISS in the first place? Mark was the wrong choice. He did...
