Re: STP at Welcome to Rockville

Huge STP fan. Saw the genuine article probably 10-15x between 1996 and 2010. I’m also fine with plenty of bands carrying on without their frontman (AIC, for example). I saw STP with Jeff at a festival last October and it was just lame and sad. Lifeless. They didn’t dare go beyond the first three alb...

Re: The most valuable vinyl you own

My dad has a ton of original pressings from the 60s and 70s but the most valuable I own would be the original AFD that’s sealed. Got it at the local record shop for $30 when I was 13. I think it hovers in value around $500 these days. Surprised it isn’t worth more.

Re: How healthy do you think you are?

9, realistically 9.5. Currently in the best shape of my life, exercise 3-4x per week, barely drink alcohol, don’t smoke, probably 2/3 of what I eat is healthy/Mediterranean diet-ish. In my 20s I’d laugh at “high on life” platitudes, now that I’m 40 I get it. These days I’ll go on vacation and eat ha...

Re: Your stage gear as a Rocker

During the nu metal era I was guilty of quite a few fashion crimes including but not limited to red pants, leopard hair, and superglued spiked hair. I hope the 15 people at my gigs appreciated my efforts. That's funny. That is how many of my cover gigs went back in the 2010s in turnout. Some were d...

I like Overton Park in midtown that has the zoo. It’s a good walk. Beale Street is fine for what it is. I thought the BBQ out there was pretty disappointing. I remember Brother Juniper’s was a real good breakfast spot.

Re: How much do touring musicians get paid?

This honestly sounds frighteningly low to play music for a living at that level. Even “doing what you love”. Was thinking the same thing, then thought about how many touring musicians these country bands have. That's a whole lot of people to transport around and accommodate. But to your point, doin...

I want to know who was writing for all the hair bands. Cinderella, Motley, Slaughter, Skid Row, etc. Because none of these dudes have been able to write shit for the past 30 years. Like how do you write all those iconic songs over a 8-12 year period and then all at once for everybody the well just ...

Maynard James Keenan…whom I will be seeing perform in Berkeley in a few hours here.

And for the record I’m 100% on board with artists who don’t care to bro down with their fans.

This is the best Perfect Crime. Axl throws an absolute shit fit during the second half of the first verse and it never fails to crack me up.

Glad Slash is giving it some love. Doubt we’ll see it from GN’R again.

Re: Calling it now: AVH's Brothers will be made into a movie. And it will suck.

Cringing at the thought.

The one scene that would be fun early in the plot is a story Eddie told about when he first came to America and didn’t speak much English and he apparently answered in the affirmative to a kid asking, “Do you want me to hit you with this?”

Re: Realistically, how much longer does GN'R have? OR ANY OF THESE BANDS??

It’s why I try to see them at least once every tour, you never know when it’ll be the last time. That’s how I approach all of the artists I love. GN’R toured super hard last year. Changed their setlist significantly. Axl was in the best shape he’s been in probably 15 years. Vocally it’s not getting...

I wonder if he’s got a memoir coming out or something? Back in those 2008 message board chats he said he was 40k words into writing it. At the pace he works, maybe it’s almost ready? :D

Re: "Without You" or "Tattoo"

Tattoo is without a doubt the worst song on ADKOT but all things being relative it’s a great album and Tattoo isn’t a bad song per se, just pretty basic and boring compared to the others and it doesn’t help that it was the first song and first single. Without You is one of the less-weak songs on an ...

The intro to “Without You” sure sounds like Alex to me. If that’s Ed, wow.

Also I guess Alex hadn’t actually been sober since the 80s.

If they’re done like the last couple of albums, sure.

Or if Zakk’s the main guitarist. As far back as Black Rain I listened pretty much just for the Zakk solos and they’re always great.

Nearly 30 years’ worth of Slash solo material. The two songs out of the gate for this project are the only two songs I’ve ever felt compelled to send to people like “Holy shit you’ve gotta hear this!”

Also this isn’t me saying “stick to music” because I don’t do that, but considering he was the new guy in Van Halen and they were not at all a political band, I dunno, I’m surprised they were cool with this. Re: Metallica Covering Elton - “Funeral For A Friend / Love Lies Bleeding”

Not bad, but my favorite instance of a thrash band covering Sir Elton is Flotsam & Jetsam's cover of "Saturday Night's Alright For Fighting": https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wOA6USLxSsw This is not even one iota different from how I was expecting it to sound before I clicked the link....
