Re: Rate the last movie you saw

Saw the new Pablo Escobar doco (SINS OF MY FATHER) at the Mex Film Festival last night....was interesting, different from the usual true crime doco as it focuses on Escobar's son and his battle to avoid following in his father's footsteps, and his attempts to connect with the sons of two of the poli...

Re: Rate the last movie you saw

HOT TUB TIME MACHINE - 6.5/10: Some good laughs, loved the Motley Crue clip over the end credits.

THE DEVIUL AND DANIEL JOHNSTON - 8/10: riveting documentary, not sure if I'm totally sold on the supposed genius of its subject, though.

Re: Rate the last movie you saw

Rewatched the 1979 Dracula film, starring Frank Langella and Lawrence Olivier and directed by John (Saturday Night Fever) Badham. Very much a 'Disco Dracula' in terms of Langella's Tony Moreno-like appearance, but a nice atmospheric film, 6.5/10

Breaking Away - 6/10 Great film, saw it on the plane when I was a kid, going to America for the first time. Haven't seen it for years though, Jackie Earl Haley was good in it....I think they also made a short-lived TV series based on the film. Last night I watcged the recent horror flick Blood Cree...

Re: Rate the last movie you saw

Just got back from seeing The Wolfman ....somewhat dissapointed, you could see evidence of the studio/director fighting over the final cut, and the werewolf attacks were too often just a cgi blur. Silly ending and another wasteful Anthony Hopkins performance, even Del Toro seemed to mail in his perf...

Re: Rate the last movie you saw

Watched Daybreakers yesterday...decent enough modern horror pic with a few new twists on the tired vampire genre. An American film but shot over here with a few local actors in supporting roles, always makes viewing a bit strange when it's supposed to be the American outback when it's clearly the Au...

Re: Rate the last movie you saw

Inglorious Basterds - I give it 4 out of 5 stars. Quentin has got the talentz for stealing bits and pieces from smaller films and pasting them together and passing them off as original thoughts... Fixed that for you. Seconded....QT's been doing that since Reservoir Dogs. What shits me more though a...

Re: Rate the last movie you saw

Saw District 9 last weekend...thought it was a pretty good and reasonably intelligent sci-fi film, although the last act saw it sink into generic cliched action territory. Refreshing to see a new sci-fi film that wasn't a remake of a classic or based on an old TV show, a video game or a toy.

Re: Rate the last movie you saw

Aboslutely freezing here in Melbourne today, so the gal came over and we sat by the heater watching some old exploitation/horror DVDs: LET SLEEPING CORPSES LIE - 8/10: Very moody and surprisingly gory 1974 film from the UK, but made by a Spanish director and partly filmed in Rome, so it had a very c...

Regarding Ed Wood - as good as Johnny Depp is in the title roll Martin Landau steals the fucking show as Bela Lugosi. An uncanny performance. Bill Murray's performance as BUNNY BRECKENRIDGE was pretty awesome too...especially considering that BILL MURRAY is umm...well let's say rumored...to be a li...

Ed Wood - 10/10. Best Tim Burton film IMO. Haven't watched Ed Wood stuff for years but after re-reading his bio ( Nightmare of Ecstasy ) recently I have enjoyed going back over his work. Last night I watched the Rhino Wood doco from 1994 Look Back in Angora , which was OK but a bit condescending to...

Re: Rate the last movie you saw

Lucio Fulci's Murder Rock from 1984, about a killer knocking off young leotard-clad gals at a New York dance academy. Not as gory or enjoyable as some of Fulci's more well-known films ( Zombie Flesh Eaters , The New York Ripper , The Beyond ) but enjoyable enough for what it was, lots of cheesy 80s ...
