Re: Tom Keifer Sings Well Here (But WHY the Wife?)

I prefer him plus an acoustic guitar over him plus a piano -- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M69LdDFbY0c

(This was on one of those VH1 compilation CDs that came out 20 years ago. Not sure if it's been used anywhere else)

Re: Crue residency starts Friday night

I can't recall a band falling so far down the totem pole so quickly without some sort of external driver. Granted, Motley weren't anywhere near a stadium-level act on their own going into the Stadium Tour, but they were doing solid business before they did their farewell tour. You'd think they'd be ...

Favorite new songs / August 2025

I'm cheating this time around, as I stumbled across some stuff in August that was released earlier this year, but that I didn't hear until recently. Tiberius - Singing For Company (favorite song: Mosaic, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jEHHkC8o9d0) I'm not very well-versed in modern prog-metal, so t...

Re: Bands who's zenith was not within their first 6 albums

Four albums is definitely easier than six. Savatage - if you count Dungeons as an album, conventional wisdom is that #5 (Hall of the Mountain King) is the pinnacle (or at least the kickoff of their golden era) Hardcore Superstar - the self-titled (album #5) is the one they usually play the most song...

This describes me as well. I’d love to find “new” acts that I enjoy, but it’s rare when it happens.

That said, there are lots of great bands out there who are actively releasing new music. It just takes more effort nowadays to find them.

Damn, I was hoping that was going to be a link to Bret getting decapitated at the Tonys. That gets my vote.

Interesting, as I was just there for another show. Really like the theater, although the drive out there sucks and the local traffic once you get off the freeway can be tricky due to street closures. Thanks for posting. I don't know the first thing about licenses, liquor laws, etc., but I'd think th...

Thank you for re-listening so I didn’t have to. After he croaked, I checked out some Ozzmosis stuff for the first time in 30 years. I should have waited even longer. Man, what a disappointing record that was. Looking forward to reading your thoughts on the two recent records. For extra credit, maybe...

Re: Bret mentioned poison 2026 tour on stage the other night

Live Nation usually likes brands more than individuals, so I'm not sure they'd go for Tom Keifer or Pearcy/DeMartini over Night Ranger or Tesla, even if they'd be a better fit for a glam/hair package (which I'd think would be the obvious direction here, but maybe '80s rock is broad enough at this po...

Re: Hair Metal Guru- Skid Row has been very quiet - is it happening?

They were trying to land Lzzy Hale while they still had that very momentum. So it was like when Portnoy quit DT and threw himself at A7X, only to have them say, "Uh, no thanks, boomer"? They really thought she'd be willing to commit to Skid Row on a full-time basis? I agree it would have ...

Re: Newfound respect for......Nelson

As the guitar sites posted every Ozzy-related story from their archives in recent weeks, I read an old interview with Brad where he talked about not staying with Ozzy and choosing NR instead (which admittedly sounds bat-shit crazy, no pun intended). Who knows how much revisionist history is going on...

Re: Hair Metal Guru- Skid Row has been very quiet - is it happening?

I have no idea why the band didn't bend over backwards to make it seem as if everything was still business as usual with Gronwall even if they knew they'd never play another show together. Seemed so unnecessary to announce his departure right before the release of the live album. They could have sti...

Re: Bret mentioned poison 2026 tour on stage the other night

I'm guessing they'll play some C-market minor league stadium somewhere along the way, so it will be a stadium tour in the sense that they went on tour and played a show at a stadium. I recently had a conversation with a musician whose band played an instrumental that didn't thrill me as a fan, but h...

Ha, I just read that NIN hired Freese

Reminds me of when Metallica hired Trujillo from Ozzy's band, and Ozzy replaced him with Newsted

There was also the time when Sebastian Bach hired Paul Crook from Anthrax, who then reached out to Snake Sabo to fill in

I can recall 23/40. My personal top three:

Win - Heart
Place - Marx
Show - Hagar (although I prefer the live acoustic version)

Hard to pass on ranking Motley, but I'm at the point now where if I never hear that song again, it'll still be too soon.

Meanwhile, Chris Laney (Pretty Maids guitarist/keyboardist, but also a producer who's worked with Crazy Lixx, H.e.a.t, Candlemass and more) is currently "reimagining" some of Jani's old demos, where he's combining polished-up old vocal tracks with newly recorded music. It sounds kinda Fran...
