Re: Amazing albums with garbage tone

[/quote] Aside from the limitations of recording equipment decades ago, how the hell do producers and sound engineers not hear shit tone when we can? It's like tv shows and movies. One watch and I can often tell if it's a flop and headed toward cancellation, yet some executive greenlit the show for ...

Re: Life growing up in the 1970’s

Speaking of tv . . . In the 70s Reading all of this makes me understand why all kids in Sweden admired and wanted to go to America in the 70s and 80s. It was really a different world. The 70s were pretty crap here, the rapid economic decline notwithstanding. Sweden dropped from 4th place in the OEC...

Re: Amazing albums with garbage tone

Black Sabbath - Born again Love the songs but the sound is horrible. I kinda like it. Iommis tone is trebly and solid-statey, but it fits the heaviness of the material. Some of those riffs are like proto-thrash. Wasn't that going to be remixed now that Iommi has recovered the studio tapes? What he ...

Re: Should Manowar consider getting a move on?

I didn't care for the re-records, Kings of metal especially did not need to be touched. But I would like to hear mountains with excellent production. Agree. Overall the Sign of the Hammer album needs to be re-recorded and it hasn't even been remastered AFAIK. The songs and vocals are great but I ha...

Re: Fleischman goes to town on THE ULTIMATE VIN in interview

The first Invasion album is the ultimate over the top hard rock album and is even more over the top than Nitro. Super high vocals, drums sound like a drum machine, and his solos are completely insane and don't even follow the song melody or structure in any way most of the time. I like it too, but ...

Re: Anything (music-related) we can ALL agree on? (...or most of us)

I was going to suggest the original Van Halen but Dym's going to call them a "cover band" again and I'll flip my lid. Too much lid-flipping these days. VH is off the table. I think we all agree that VH3 is garbage. Even the VH diehards. The original Alice Cooper band is a good call. Also ...

It must have been 2 years since they first announced they're releasing a re-record of sign of the hammer followed by an album of all new material. They even had little interview Snippets and Studio reports about them - over a year ago. I know they've done a few one-off European and South American s...

Priest....live (minus Parental Guidance and RYAATW, thus ruining the thread point, but the rest is perfection, and I deleted those MP3s from my copy) PG is not bad on the live album and even better on Turbo Thirty and some 1986 bootlegs. The studio version is too slow and lacking energy. RYYATW is ...

Re: Amazing albums with garbage tone

And I definitely blame Tom Werman. He may have been a good pop producer, but he completely neutered heavy metal bands. The records he did for Dokken and Crue had similar problems. Dokken Tooth and Nail has one of the worst tones for a major label album. The Rock Candy CD remaster is a massive upgra...
