Re: Kiss in the 80s

I am a diehard KISS fan from 76-77 (I was 7 years old), and I was into KISS in the 80s as a teenager, but I didn't really come across many 80s teenagers who were fans. Most of the guys I hung out with were into Maiden, Priest, Metallica and the girls Bon Jovi, Cinderella, and Poison. The vibe I got...

Re: Kiss in the 80s

I did, I discovered Kiss just before MFTE came out. Wasn't that impressed with that album or the recent Unmasked, so the original band was the real Kiss to me until Lick It Up came out. Probably that's why that album is still in my top 3-4, I loved the sound and I still think Vinnie was a great addi...

Re: Judas Priest/Sabaton - Rosemont Theatre 5/1/2024

. Sabaton was given enough time to play something like 12 songs. And there was a lot of folks there that knew their stuff even the song sung in Swiss. I’d never heard of them before. There is no Swiss language even in Switzerland. Sabaton may have sung in Swedish. And they suck but I guess they can...

Re: Did Gene Simmons or Paul Stanley ever successfully make someone's career?

Paul jump-started his renowned career, but it wasn't Paul's doing. Desmond co-wrote (or probably mostly wrote) the song. It was his own doing. But Desmond did not write most of IWMFLY. Paul had an idea about a song inspired by what was played at Studio 54 with a pulsating beat and lyrics about imme...

Riverdogs are a bit of a stretch too. They sounded more like Soul Asylum than White Lion.

Agree with about half of the list. Including GnR.

Re: Did Gene Simmons or Paul Stanley ever successfully make someone's career?

If bands they took out as opening bands count, the list grows: Judas Priest, Bon Jovi, Rush, Mötley Crue and Iron Maiden all opened for Kiss shortly before they themselves became arena headliners. And that's just off the top of my head. Maybe Slaughter too, but their successful career didn't last ve...

One-and-done nobodies like Rockhead, Contraband and Candy Harlot are on the list but not bands like Icon, Heavens Edge and Pretty Maids who weren't huge but at least had a couple of albums and tours and have a cult following?? Has ANYBODY on here ever met a Rockhead or Candy Harlot fan??

Re: Does DemonFilth really love Rough Cutt?

Dreamin' Again is decent. I read somewhere that every band has at least one good song in them. Dreamin Again is Rough Cutt's. Reminds me of two otherwise spectacularly shitty 80s metal bands that somehow pulled a great song out of their asses. Bodine with Black Star Rising and Faithful Breath with ...

And our course Kiss Exposed and Motley Uncensored. I think those were the 2 most popular ones. Yeah forgot about them but they were huge at the time. Re: You Can't Stop Rock n Roll is the best Twisted Sister album

With Come Out and Play that anger wasn't there anymore, it was just a heavy metal album with a stupid lead off single. That's how I would describe Stay Hungry. WNGTI was just too happy and lightweight and the rest of the album was quite generic HM. Maybe The Beast and Burn In Hell have some of that...

A massive disappointment. Imagine following up LAFS with something comparable... they could have become a massive band. Instead, this album pretty much killed their upward ascent and they never recovered. You may have forgotten, I sure wish I did, but later they released a little single called &quo...

He's talking about all this stuff, but that was yesterday. What's Lou singing lately? I remember Lou doing a pretty big-budget Shadow King project that was mostly turgeo-id. One good song only, and that was the little acoustic piece done by Viv Campbell. Shadow King is possibly the worst "supe...

Was just watching their performance in Dortmund '83 (the best single day line up of metal bands ever assembled) Donington 1988 would like a word with you. Maiden, Kiss, DLR, Megadeth, GNR and Helloween was a solid line-up. You could argue Kiss vs Roth or Priest vs Ozzy but Krokus and Quiet Riot got...

Mustaine didn't screw up, he intentionally replaced 70s British things like UDA, MPLA and IRA with things late 80s Americans could relate to - can't remember but wasn't it FDA, CIA and USA? Or was that n Mötley version?

Iron Maiden cut the first and last verse off Skyhook's Women in Uniform and made two puzzling changes to the lyrics. First, replacing "Flying to my hometown on a 747" with "Comin' back to London on a 747" which makes perfect sense and if they chose to play it live it could have s...

Seems like most of the early "hair bands" (Quiet Riot, Keel, Rough Cutt, Stryper, Black N Blue, Y&T, Twisted Sister, etc,) the majority of their catalogs are forgettable filler. I like early Stryper and Keel but basically you're right. Ratt and Mötley were far ahead of the rest in 83-...

For my ears - “Don’t Go Away Mad (Just Go Away)”. How fortuitous. When I heard the song after that ("Time for Change") I should have known it was over. It wasn't the last good song, but the last great song. Primal Scream, Angela, Enslaved and SoLA are good songs. DGAM, SATD, Wild Side and...

Nikki just refuses to give us the classic Crue sound. Anything from 81-91 would be great, but he just won’t do it… They tried to go back to the old sound with New Tattoo and that sucked too. Some of those riffs even were from the Dr. Feelgood era. I'm not sure what people were expecting with the ly...
