Re: Jon Bon Jovi and Bret Michaels

He's tried to distance himself from that as if it was a phase he went through in his 20s. Notice he doesn't have any of those bands open for him or play on Hair Band packaged tours. Now, he's a serious adult contemporary artist... I think it was a phase. Or chasing trends to become successful. Don'...

Re: Did Gene Simmons or Paul Stanley ever successfully make someone's career?

Desmond came into the situation because Paul wanted to pork his girlfriend Maria Vidal who also sang in his band. Without her in the picture, Paul wouldn't have given Desmond or his no-hope disco rock band a second thought. I thought Desmond Child was gay and that was what attracted Paul Desmond is...

No question they were the prototype, but it's impossible to be part of a movement that came AFTER you... And if we think about it, weren't VH (at least partly) molded on Zep - are they a hair band too then? I could argue the starting point for softer, pretty boy metal was when Mötley had a h...

Re: Hard to find albums on vinyl

Vinyl was pressed less and less starting in the early 90s. Bands that didn’t take off only had their first run printed so they’re usually rare Nobody bought rock vinyl in the 90s and well into the 00s. Think dance music still sold on vinyl, club DJs seemed to like it. But in 90-95 you could buy use...

Going strictly by Discogs median price, that would be a Judas Priest self-titled box from 1985, signed by 4 members in 1988 (no Glenn) and including sunburst label copies of Killing Machine, Stained Class and British Steel, a unique pressing of the Take These Chains single, a band photo and a sticke...

Re: Why wasn't Black 'N Blue bigger?

They lacked in the song department and image department. And, they were DAMN lucky to have been able to release four major label albums. Their "luck" in that regard was mostly a factor of being one of the bands that got in very early in the curve, they were in L.A. and got signed as far b...

BTW, Desmond didn't come into the situation with "I Was Made For Loving You". Paul and he worked on it together. Afterwards, Paul and Vini Poncia worked on it. The chorus was written by Paul and Vini. Desmond came into the situation because Paul wanted to pork his girlfriend Maria Vidal w...

Re: Kiss in the 80s

I am a diehard KISS fan from 76-77 (I was 7 years old), and I was into KISS in the 80s as a teenager, but I didn't really come across many 80s teenagers who were fans. Most of the guys I hung out with were into Maiden, Priest, Metallica and the girls Bon Jovi, Cinderella, and Poison. The vibe I got...

Re: Kiss in the 80s

I did, I discovered Kiss just before MFTE came out. Wasn't that impressed with that album or the recent Unmasked, so the original band was the real Kiss to me until Lick It Up came out. Probably that's why that album is still in my top 3-4, I loved the sound and I still think Vinnie was a great addi...

Re: Judas Priest/Sabaton - Rosemont Theatre 5/1/2024

. Sabaton was given enough time to play something like 12 songs. And there was a lot of folks there that knew their stuff even the song sung in Swiss. I’d never heard of them before. There is no Swiss language even in Switzerland. Sabaton may have sung in Swedish. And they suck but I guess they can...

Re: Did Gene Simmons or Paul Stanley ever successfully make someone's career?

Paul jump-started his renowned career, but it wasn't Paul's doing. Desmond co-wrote (or probably mostly wrote) the song. It was his own doing. But Desmond did not write most of IWMFLY. Paul had an idea about a song inspired by what was played at Studio 54 with a pulsating beat and lyrics about imme...

Riverdogs are a bit of a stretch too. They sounded more like Soul Asylum than White Lion.

Re: Did Gene Simmons or Paul Stanley ever successfully make someone's career?

If bands they took out as opening bands count, the list grows: Judas Priest, Bon Jovi, Rush, Mötley Crue and Iron Maiden all opened for Kiss shortly before they themselves became arena headliners. And that's just off the top of my head. Maybe Slaughter too, but their successful career didn't last ve...

Dreamin' Again is decent. I read somewhere that every band has at least one good song in them. Dreamin Again is Rough Cutt's. Reminds me of two otherwise spectacularly shitty 80s metal bands that somehow pulled a great song out of their asses. Bodine with Black Star Rising and Faithful Breath with ...

With Come Out and Play that anger wasn't there anymore, it was just a heavy metal album with a stupid lead off single. That's how I would describe Stay Hungry. WNGTI was just too happy and lightweight and the rest of the album was quite generic HM. Maybe The Beast and Burn In Hell have some of that...

Iron Maiden cut the first and last verse off Skyhook's Women in Uniform and made two puzzling changes to the lyrics. First, replacing "Flying to my hometown on a 747" with "Comin' back to London on a 747" which makes perfect sense and if they chose to play it live it could have s...
