Re: Megadeth's final album and tour
Dave should just hire a good singer and just play guitar... He honestly should've done this in '83. The problem with Megadeth was never the instrumentation. It was always the pissing and moaning and the voice and the lyrics. As far as metal goes, Dave writes above average lyrics...I mean, he's no L...

Re: Recreating Monsters of Rock Tour w/ Tributes
I just can’t get behind tribute bands… at all. No matter how good they may be. I recognize that some folks want to “hear those songs played live.” Fine. To each their own. I got dragged to a Journey tribute last weekend. To be fair, they were really good. For my money, the singer sounded even bette...

ToddRyche played the Epcot Flower and Garden Festival at Walt Disney World back at the end of March. And I thought Tate was doing a farewell tour? That’s about all I know right now. I think it's just a 'farewell' to playing OM in it's entirety. Do people really care that much any more about seeing ...

Re: Life growing up in the 1970’s
As a Gen-Xer, being a kid in the 70s and a teen in the 80s was the best. I can't say much more than others have mentioned. We were feral in the 70s, and generally small town life was safe enough to be out running around town from morning to night, going to arcades, oogling high school chicks at the...

Re: If Nuno Had Taken The Ozzy Gig In '95...
I'm sure you've all heard Nuno's story about being offered the Ozzy gig in '95. How do you think he would've done with Ozzy? He obviously rips on the old stuff, but what kind of original material do you think he would've brought to the table? Would he have adapted to Ozzy's more gothic style or wou...

I was watching an interview with Don Dokken from a couple weeks ago. His voice is notably gone and he's in his 70s but he still smokes cigs! I have a friend that said he talked to Don for several late night hours on one of those rock cruises. Don basically chain smoked the entire time and talked ab...

If you were lucky enough to have MTV around 82, it was hard rock/metal heaven. It was before the time of dedicated shows and you'd see hard rock/metal videos all day mixed in with everything else. Early videos by Triumph, Krokus, Ozzy, Def Leppard (they had quite a few off Pyromania), Quiet Riot, Ni...

I was let down, but not from the point of thinking they were selling out. It just sucked... It was that time period when some bands either tried to have a futuristic/scifi image or really glammy (like Ulitmate Sin Ozzy) What lost me is the overuse of synths/keyboards in the music...they just overdid...

When I heard Les was involved with KKs new band, I had hopes they'd write at least some more classic sounding JP songs similar to SC and HBFL. But no, every song was cliche paint-by-number metal boring-nes...

Re: Bands that you suspect used ghostwriters
Poison's first album was a low budget rush job on an indie label. Mötley's first was self released. Makes zero sense that they would pay ghost writers or musicians back then. They just got lazy or ran out of ideas after a couple of albums. Poison flat-out lifted other people's songs for their debut...

I've been saying it for several years now, but I fully believe that Diamond Dave has Parkinson's and it has affected his voice and his hand movements. He often employs the hand in the pocket trick. RUSH used sequencers for background vocals, some rhythm electric and acoustic guitar parts, some percussion parts, and a lot of keyboard/synth parts. But songs shouldn't be duplicated exactly live. Growing up in the 80s and just getting into playing guitar, I loved hear live songs from bands to hear how they did a song/part that had more instrumentation than the band had. It was cool to hear how different songs were live and how they changed the ...
