Re: Rate the last movie you saw

Parasite. 9/10.

It was brave to make this subtitled, South Korean, film, the Best Motion Picture, at this years Oscars. Brave, but not unjustified, as it's excellent.

Re: Rate the last movie you saw

Once Upon a Time in Hollywood - 5/10.

So looking forward to this, after some great reviews, and recommendation. Deadly slow beginning, and never really picked up in pace at all. Well played leads, of course, but a disappointing film overall.

Re: Rate the last movie you saw

A Star is Born - 8/10. Enjoyable film. Very good performances from the main characters. First Man - 4/10. Great effects, but a deadly dull, and slow storyline. Of the 4 of us that saw it together, 3 of us confessed to snoozing during it! Bohemian Rhapsody - 7/10. The music from the early years meant...

Re: Rate the last movie you saw

The Greatest Showman 10/10. Never really thought of myself as a lover of the 'Musical' genre, but with the fairly recent, La La Land, and now this, I'm hooked. Of course, musicals are only as good as the songs in them. I wasn't disappointed at all, and the dance routines were absolutely superb too. ...

Re: Rate the last movie you saw

Ted 2. Infantile, immature etc. etc. shouldn't like it at all.........but I laughed my head off at some scenes. Watched it with my 18 y'o & we were sniggering most of the way through.
Not sure if it's as good as the first (probably not), but a worthy 7/10 in my book.

Re: Rate the last movie you saw

Saw the Docu/film, 'From Austin to Boston' last w/end. Basically a road movie, with a few selected musicians, Ben Howard, The Staves, Nathaniel Raitleff & some others, travelling 'From A to B' in 5 VW Camper vans, playing gigs and tasting road life. It gives a real perspective of how life is as ...

Re: Rate the last movie you saw

Finally got to see 'Whiplash' last weekend. Very enjoyable. The part of the Tutor, played by J.K.Simmons, had some laugh out loud lines and he was scarily superb in the role. Miles Teller was excellent too. Not sure if he did the drumming on all the scenes he was in but the last scene had playing fr...

Bolt win. A triumph for the Sport.

Surely Athletics drew a huge sigh of relief after Usain Bolt overcame the twice convicted drugs cheat, Justin Gatlin. I wonder how many Americans were willing J.G. to win in this particular encounter? On another note, but related, surely Athletes should only get 1 chance of cheating. If you're buste...

Saw 2 films over the w/end:

Welcome to the Jungle - 7/10. Plodded along a little bit, but on occasion LOL funny. My 16 y.o. found it hilarious.
Last Days on Mars - 3/10. B movie at best.

Over the w/end saw: Starred Up - 7/10. Brutal prison drama, with Jack O'Connell (who's gonna be a star) trying to forge a relationship with his Father, who's a lifer inside. The Imitation Game - 8/10. Very good period drama about breaking the secret code used by the Nazis. Benedict Cucumberpatch is ...

The Railway Man - 7/10. Set in 1980, but flashbacks to WW2, this Colin Firth film, with Nicole Kidman as his wife, is about a man coming to terms with the horrors he encountered by the Japs during the 2nd World war, and his eventual peace when he gets to meet one of the Jap soldiers who caused him s...

The Equalizer - 8/10. Denzel in very good form, playing the 'Making things right' guy, excellently. Could be the start of a decent franchise?

The Interview - 6/10. A lot of fuss (Understandably so), a few giggles, good chemistry between Rogen & Franco, an ok film.

Labour Day - 7/10.

Drama, with Kate Winslet harbouring fugitive Josh Brolin, unwantingly at first, then things change. Good stuff. Hoping to catch at least a glimpse of her ample bosoms....no luck.

Had a w/end of illness, so watched 4 movies in 2 days. The Monuments Men - 6/10, watchable war film, nothing special. Die Hard with a Vengeance - 8/10, great to revisit this action film again. Very good chemistry between Willis & Samuel Jackson. Don Jon - 7/10, Joseph Gordon-Levitt is excellent ...

Saw The Judge over the weekend.

Basically a story of someone trying to get back in favour with his Family, after years of being excluded. Excellent performances from all, R.Downey Jr & R.Duvall will be there or thereabouts when the Oscars are nominated for sure. 9/10 for me.

Always amazes me that the best teams always find a way to win....somehow. Whether a last minute goal/save, pen's or just plain luck. They just do.

Colombia
Holland
Germany
Argentina

At the cinema - The Hobbit (2nd episode), excellent 9/10. Gravity 8/10. Unbelievable Fx. At home - Elysium 6/10. Went to shit about half way through after promising start. Grown Ups 2 8/10. Actually laughed more at this than the first one. World's End 7/10. Some good moments in above average caper. ...

The Runaways - 5/10. I wonder what the girls themselves (And Kim Fowley) thought of this? Fury - 6/10. Samuel T. Jackson doing his thing. 360 Degrees - 8/10. Anthony Hopkins etc. A well thought out, beautifully shot film with a few boobs in there too. What's not to like? Ripley's Game - 8/10. John M...

Killer Joe - 7/10. Really funny in places but dark in others. Worth it alone to see Gina Gershon 's muff & Juno Temple (Who was superb) nude. Emile Hirsch & Matthew McConnaghy were excellent too. Les Miserables - 7/10. Very well done but one more for the ladies I think. Battle scenes were di...

Brighton Rock - 7/10.

Good sense of period (1964), but something missing (not sure what) to make it a classic.

Keith Moon
