They were solid, but closer to Ojeda/French than Tipton/Downing.

Graham Oliver did the basic 70's blues rock stuff, and Paul Quinn did the flashier solos.

Neither one was a virtuoso, but they weren't hacks. More Wishbone Ash than Iron Maiden.

JJ French was no virtuoso, but to say he couldn't play is dumb. He had 70's bar band chops, because he was a 70's bar band guy.

For me, the best part of the show was when Robin did the news. They stopped doing that.

I tune in every now and then, but it's usually a repeat or Howard talking about learning guitar (which is unlistenable).

Not in the US, other than some patches of the Midwest. "Lights Out" was the closest they ever came to being relevant. Even then, they were still an opening act.

As great as it is, the first Montrose album kinda flopped on release.

It eventually went platinum, but that didn't happen until after Sammy joined VH - 13 years later.
