Re: Killeverything's (New)NeverEndingBaseballThread
Yeah, F that. It would be one thing if it was tradition for the WS winner to open at home, but it's not. As I recall the Yankees won in 2009 and then opened in Boston in 2010. C'mon now.

Re: Killeverything's (New)NeverEndingBaseballThread
The HOF is a joke, that's been beaten to death. It's the "Hall of Pretty Good" since they voted in guys like Rice and Dawson. It took Blyleven nearly 15 years to get in. Do I think he's worthy? Sure, why not. But after 15 years, IMO, the real joy of it must be lost for the guy. The window ...

Bingo... I'm just outside of Lakeland. If they relocated closer to central FL they'd pull from Tampa AND Orlando.

Re: Killeverything's (New)NeverEndingBaseballThread
People cry about the fans in Tampa, blah blah blah... I can tell you firsthand if they relocated that stadium a) out of the ghetto and b) off of St. Petersburg that people would show up. From where I live (only about 45 minutes east of Tampa) it's almost a 2 hour drive to the ballpark. 45 min to Tam...

Poor Tampa. I think their window has closed if their big free agent prize is Brian Fuentes.

Lackey was Boston's Burnett. They even got paid the same. I'm sure both franchises would love a mulligan on those, except Burnett was actually useful in the '09 playoffs.

Re: Killeverything's (New)NeverEndingBaseballThread
Reports are the Rangers have signed Brandon Webb and Arthur Rhodes. They got Webb to replace Lee? Ouch. Yeah, that's almost as bad as signing Luis Vizcaíno and Pedro Feliciano just to say you did something because Lee shunned your offer. Well, better than being a 3rd place team forced to shel...

Re: Killeverything's (New)NeverEndingBaseballThread
I dunno how much Boston has coming off the books (I could look it up but I'm lazy) - I'm assuming money from Lowell, Martinez, and Beltre - but shit it seems like they're spending a ton this offseason. I wonder where their payroll ends up. Schilling actually had a good write-up on ESPN.com comparing...

Re: Killeverything's (New)NeverEndingBaseballThread
Yankees had no interest in Crawford. Cashman even admitted he met with him to drive the price up for Boston (which evidently worked, to some extent). Yankees are smart enough to know their current LF is not much of a dropoff from Crawford. As I've said before, he's a good player, just not $20M per y...

That was taken at Indians' spring training in Winter Haven, Florida (the last year before they moved out to Arizona). My son was born 5 days later so as you can imagine my wife was about to pop. As we were waiting to meet him he said that if my wife went into labor right then and there we'd have to ...

Re: Killeverything's (New)NeverEndingBaseballThread
I said it a page or two ago.. just not crazy about Crawford at all. Contract is ABSURD. He's not a $20M/year player. As Kill said, for a guy whose main gift is speed... this could messy by the end. He's a decent hitter for average... no power at all. And his defense is probably wasted in LF at Fenwa...

He's really not much better of a hitter than Josh Willingham... who, last I checked was playing in Washington's outfield already. Insane.

Laughing like crazy at the Werth to DC deal. They wouldn't pay Adam Dunn, but they'll give that guy SEVEN years? Good move.

Re: Obama's tax hike plan fails in the Senate
Agree with the Democrats on this one. The GOP is going to stand pat and fuck the middle class just so the top 1%, who can afford the hit, would maintain a tax break? How does this make any sense at all? Your math is incorrect, which is the intended effect of left wing propaganda. The bill actually ...

For as close as the Padres got last year on a shoestring budget, they should have been ADDING to the roster to make a run in the weak NL West, not trading their star player. Oh well.

Re: Killeverything's (New)NeverEndingBaseballThread
Crawford is going to be paid way too much for far too long. He's benefitted from being the franchise player of Tampa Bay for so long... but I just don't think he's that good. Honestly, compare him to Brett Gardner... Crawford's got more power, but really they're pretty comparable. And you'd never gi...

Jeter shouldn't have won. I get that. But Teixeira got the same bump that Scott Rolen got - a fantastic fielder who maybe didn't have his best year but still won the award. Can't really fight with that. And I think Cano was deserving. Outstanding range, great arm, makes all the routine plays plus th...

Not that Uggla was fantastic, but happy with the return? A utility guy coming off a career year and a guy who at best is a lefty specialist. Puzzling return, really.

Bush's book - Decision Points
About 4-5 chapters in now - surprisingly good. I wasn't a huge Bush fan, but thought he got an unfair shake. He's a great storyteller. The book isn't really chronological, and it's not exactly an autobiography, but it works. It's like freaking $35 though which shocked me... should have done the Kind...

This scares me as a Yankee fan... lefties sometimes take longer to figure it out... he's a first round pedigree guy.. could be ridiculous. Low risk move for Boston, very smart.TawnyVonJagger wrote:Enjoy Andrew Miller, Red Sox Nation.
