Re: Spinal Tap II - The End Continues review

Everything promotional about this up until watching it today made me think I was going to hate it and shit on it. Nope, it was pretty good. Pleasantly surprised. I love the original too much to want to watch this because I couldn't imagine they could get it right again with the self-awareness aspec...

Re: Anything (music-related) we can ALL agree on? (...or most of us)

WTF does Lulu mean? In my mind, Lulu was a British singer, that sang To Sir, With Love. A fantastic song and movie. What are you even talking about? that goofy Metallica/Lou Reed album Thankfully, I've never heard that. I will take Lou Reed and Metallica in separate doses...thanks. you and everybod...

Re: Anything (music-related) we can ALL agree on? (...or most of us)

I'm confident we have few, if any, Lulu contrarians. At least one. I have to really be in the mood for it, and obviously I have to re-state "it's not a Metallica album, it's a Lou album with Metallica as his backing band", but as far as 90 minutes (or whatever) of bleak art-noise goes, I'...

Re: Anything (music-related) we can ALL agree on? (...or most of us)

How about the first Badlands album? I don't know if it's universally liked here, but it's got to be close. I've been posting here for 25 years (which boggles my mind, but that's a whole different story) and can't recall this album ever getting any kind of significant hate. I'm sure I'm not the only...

Re: Anything (music-related) we can ALL agree on? (...or most of us)

Operation: Mindcrime is a great album. Meh. If you never heard the wall or read 1984 Although the Beatles are nearly universally loved and/or respected you always have a few “they sucked” boneheads. They were bigger than the Stones (and I never actually bought a Stones ticket or album), but I don’t...

Abbey Road has a similar hodgepodge quality and I don't think it works nearly as well, I think they were running on fumes there. White Album is ALL cylinders.

Re: Spinal Tap II - The End Continues review

I’ve never watched the original. I’ve always taken the concept to be an insult. Hard pass. Silliest take ever and could only be made by someone who never watched the film. There is a very good reason why it is loved by pretty much every musician out there. It is brilliant, hilarious and timeless. A...

I saw them twice in ‘84 and they were GREAT both times. The MTV concert is one of the best ever. I’d see them if they did regular touring dates, but I doubt that will be the case. Also, Dee is better singer than 90+% of rock singers. Always criminally underrated because of the drag/schtick. Too bad ...

Re: Chuck Berry - the nastiest rock star of all?

I remember seeing a video of Chuck back in the day. The classic part of it was Chuck pissing on this blonde chick's face, and he goes: "Do you love me?" and she goes: "Yes, of course" and he replies: IF YOU LOVED ME, YOU'D OPEN YOUR MOUTH. Classic stuff right there. I've never h...

Chris and his band were lame. Randy blew him away. WASP sucked The only thing VH had by 1978 that QR didn’t was Ted Templeman. That Kevin, Randy, Drew and Rudy lineup was better than most of what came out of Hollywood and the scene in the 1980s. QR needed a Roy Thomas Baker, a Glyn Johns or even Mi...

REO Speedwagon You Get What You Play For

I’m an old-school Slayer fan, but Decade of Aggression was not good for me when it came out. The band sounded sloppy as shit. My buddies and I were kinda surprised they released it. I think Lombardo even explained later why he was playing so badly

Led Zeppelin are huge but it would be interesting to see what would’ve happened had they kept going either with or without John Bonham. And of course, The Beatles! I guess in a way they did get back together with the 3 new songs but that’s not the same. The Beatles had been broken up for a decade b...

As a HUGE lifelong Beatles fan I gotta say a gigantic "nope" to this one. Tons of shit on that album and it should have definitely been a single album full of great songs (or solo album with a few more crap songs each).
