Re: Killeverything's (New)NeverEndingBaseballThread

Anyone think Ryan Howard gets the 18 million arbitration award he's going for? Howard is young, and not even in his prime yet. I understand with the economy and it's effect on teams not NY, Boston, Anaheim, etc. I would be surprised to see Philly not do everything to keep/satisfy him. I'll look int...

Wow. Check this out: SHADOW GAMES: Baseball and Me Posted on Dec 22, 2008 10:29 am By Todd Drew I went to a baseball game after my father’s funeral. I also went to one after finding out about my mother’s brain cancer. It was selfish and heartless. I felt guilty before and embarrassed after, but for ...

Felix Hernandez signs 1yr/3.8 mil with Mariners Rockies sign Huston Street 1yr/4.5 mil Phillies extend Ryan Madson 3yrs/12 mil I'm shocked King Felix is going to re-sign with Seattle. That guy is like one season from becoming a superior ace, and since the M's have a lot of Bavasi damage to repair. ...

Re: Killeverything's (New)NeverEndingBaseballThread

I think they'll stick one of them in LF, move Huff to 1B full-time and DH Luke Scott. I guess that leaves Kevin Millar out of a job, but at least they'll have a very promising young outfield. I doubt Millah has a lot of options. I love the guy, always will. I'm personally looking forward to him doi...

Re: Killeverything's (New)NeverEndingBaseballThread

The chances of Felix Pie becoming a fixture for the Cubs in center field are over. The Cubs have reached agreement with the Orioles on a deal that will send Pie to Baltimore for left-hander Garrett Olson and Class A right-hander Henry Williamson, according to major-league sources. I'm not sure how ...

Re: Killeverything's (New)NeverEndingBaseballThread

I don't know how much of a bargain it really is. The 3 year extension is really just buying out his arbitration years, he's still hitting free agency when he would have - the Phillies are just hedging themselves and locking in $20.5M when the next 3 years he could be worth more in arbitration (or, ...

Re: Killeverything's (New)NeverEndingBaseballThread

That's a massive fucking bargain! On MLB Tv they're talking about how a lot of players are signing one year deals. Ones who aren't the Sabbathias or Teixeras, to wait for the market to get better and file for Free Agency then. This is a three year deal, for a pitcher that easily falls into the Sabba...

Re: Killeverything's (New)NeverEndingBaseballThread

Teams are not allowed to prohibit players from participating in the WBC, but if they finished last year on the DL I believe the team can prevent them from playing, if I read correctly. I know Posada wants to play but I think it may be a moot point. I'm not sure how it works. I know that in MLB play...

Re: Killeverything's (New)NeverEndingBaseballThread

The change in Ortiz from Minnesota to Boston, comes from his swing. Gardehire wanted him to be a line-drive, base hit hitter. He had to doctor his swing to do that. When he was DFA the Red Sox FO knew that he could demolish Fenway, if he was allowed to swing for the fences....plus hitting in front ...

How about this andrew jones situation? ESPN reported last night the dodgers are on the verge of releasing the guy. He's only 32, but his production has dropped off so much. His power was only able to hit 3 HR's last year. Talk about a dramatic change. I wonder why his production has fallen so much,...

Re: Killeverything's (New)NeverEndingBaseballThread

But when was the last time the Yankees did something like that? And when they did, they passed on as much as a sure thing as possible. I mean this is the team that traded for Randy Johnson for christ's sake. Now they won't do it for the best pitcher in the game? And now one year later, they're back...

Re: Killeverything's (New)NeverEndingBaseballThread

Maybe, but the jury is still out on Hughes. He's a kid, and from all indications is an ace in the waiting. I wouldn't have traded him either. If it fails, you'll be asked why you didn't trade him a million times. When you have that much talent-potential, you hold onto it. We'll have to see with the ...

Re: Killeverything's (New)NeverEndingBaseballThread

The biggest question the MFY face is Joba's value. I've posted his Minor League #s before, and it's frightening. Most starters start off in the BP ( Pedro Martinez ), till they learn how to pitch. In 2007 Joba struck out 38% of the batters he faced, coming out of the pen. A one - two of Joba/Rivera ...

I don't think Mattingly had the numbers to make the Hall. Kirby Puckett didn't either. Stack them up next to eachother, it's pretty close. Puckett's in, Mattingly won't be. Go figure. I think Moose makes it. Winning 300 games is fast becoming a thing of yesteryear. The guy had an outstanding winnin...

He stated last season that he wouldn't mind going there, to help mentor in the younger pitchers. I'm not sure if he'll be able to return though. Tampa Bay signed Gabe Kapler to a 1 year deal. I think that could be a good pickup, not unlike the potential of Rocco Baldelli. A veteran prescence in the clubhouse, that team seems to need it. Here's Schilling's take on it ( Schill has a take on everything ): Sabermetric guys will laugh, stat guys ...

How many more days until pitchers and catchers report? Beginning to get a small itch for baseball. Pitchers, catchers, and injured players are due to report on Feb.14. - I think there's a bit of a bias against ex-Expos re the Hall of Fame. Face it, Carter went in as an Expo and was none too happy a...
