Yeah, the Mercer Box needs more of an 800 or Plexi tone to be fully functional. You can get something like a 30dB gain out of it too!
It wasn't that bad. I took my time and double-checked/metered every connection and tried to minimize the possibility of a problem when I plugged it in. It sounds fucking great. This isn't me, but here's a clip: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9_ae1P9w4Hw

Well...

This being a recession and all, I just sold my AC30, which I loved but never used to get an Egnater Rebel 20, which I am quite liking.

Image

Awesome little amp...you can dial it down to 1 watt and get the big rock including power amp compression at just-a-little more than living room volume...plus it has seperate EL84 and 6v6 power sections, which are continuosly mixable.

I just got it set up in a little ISO box I made for recording yesterday. Sounds pretty good, but I gotta work out the "sweet" combo of speaker, guitar and mic still.

Everybody tells me I need a ribbon mic...people also tell me Heil makes a great guitar mic...I may go shopping.

The combination of the gtr/amp is fucking beautiful. I installed a post phase inverter Master Volume so I can use it without my neighbors wanting to kill me and I've got a TS-9 in front to give it a little nudge. That Mercer sounds interesting, but I've got a micro amp in there too for leads, so it'd probably be overkill

Sleek - I've heard/read great things about the Egnater Rebel series.

I brought the rebel 20 to rehearsal last night, and was amazed at how loud it can be when you open it up...it can hang with the band!

Seriously a good purchase.

Anyone try the Dimarzio PAF 36th Anniversary pickups?

How do they sound in comparison to something like the Air Classics or Duncan's Seth Lovers?

36th anniversary? Seriously?

...shouldn't these sort of things be round numbers?

...I mean, is every year's production an anniversary year?

Looking for suggestions on a pickup.

What is the closest I could get to an active sound(e.m.g./duncan), but with a passive pickup?
I'm looking for a real heavy/crunchy tone p.u. to replace the bridge p.u. in my 74 s.g. Thanks

Try some of the EMG passive pickups first. I think they're geared towards that sound.

Awesome score. I think Vibro King's are one of the best post glory era amps Fender ever did.
Great for recording. That sir is a fine, fine amp.

Thanks Jack. It's the most responsive amp I've ever used. The fat switch really makes it growl at a higher volume.

I just picked up one of those little Blackstar 5 watt combos... There's something vaguely ridiculous about a 'stack' of to 10 inch speakers, but it's fun, and I seem to be getting some decent sounds out of it so far...

I haven't bought any new gear lately. I've been throwing too much money at my video and nearly complete solo album.

I'm really itching to get my hands on a Fender Vintage Hot Rod '52 Telecaster though:

Yeah, I'm on the look-out for an appropriate 2x12, but quality second hand gear is rare as hen's teeth here... Will no doubt investigate a tube change in the future too, although I'm getting some pretty decent sounds out of it as is...

Looking for a reverb pedal too... Anybody got a recommendation (at the affordable end of the market)?

A few things:

1. Anyone record with a Rockman before? I'm debating on using it as a preamp in the near future - or at least figure out some way to run an A/B switch between that and my pedalboard.

2. Anyone try a Duncan Screamin Demon in a Les Paul? Did you like it?

3. My new Strat:
