I put a V30 in my yamadano, and it helped.
The fender looks cool. I'm guessing it's like a hotrod deville with nicer clean?

Re: El Toro's Official Guitarded Thread...
You got the T-50 or the T-100? They're both 2-channel amps though, whereas the 20-watt Jet City is a single channel. BUT, the 100-watt Jet City is a 2-channel with 5 12AX7s instead of 3 like the 20-watter. Street is gona be like $899, they sound more brutal out the box than the JCA-20H, but I'm sure if you hit the preamp with a Tube Screamer the little one will get some metal tones.PrÎck wrote:I played it when I was shopping. It seemed to be more classic rock than metal. I thought it was a good deal for the price.
I could be biased, since I have the sol designed yamaha.

I am interested in hearing the Egnater Rebel 20. It has a pair of EL84s AND a pair of 6V6s for power tubes, and a mix knob to adjust how much of which tubes are giving you your output sound. Only $549 which is cheap for the Egnater name, though I do think they are made in China. Doesn't say on the chassis.

Re: El Toro's Official Guitarded Thread...
No pics for now, gang........camera's broke and spent the money on a new-to-me guitar(priorities, man!).
LP copy, looks like a Warmouth neck&body...slim-taper neck....translucent blood red flametop.
Gold tune-o-matic/stopbar, gold Grovers, black speedknobs on 500k pots.....Seymour Duncan '59 and JB, neck and bridge respectively(so much for the Dimarzio-based screename, right?)....stainless jumbo frets.
It's a new world for me, as I've always played Strats and its variants...but damn, this thing plays/sounds great!
Now, time to shitcan the crappy practice amp and get another decent amp again....tried a 2/12 Peavey Valve King that wasn't bad at all.....still miss the JCM800 and slant-cab I had many years ago(had it for a month, sold it to pay off the car I had...again, priorities), but I'll never run across the smokin' deal I got it for ever again.
Any suggestions on 2/12's? I'm not interested in modeling amps, so keep that Line 6 shit far away from me...not opposed to a solid-state it it's good, but a good tube combo that flat delivers is what I'm jonesin' for.

Re: El Toro's Official Guitarded Thread...
Don't rule out modelers completely. Try the Vox ADVT100 2x12 combo. It uses a 12AX7 to add tube warmth, has great sounding models from AC30 to Mesa Rectifier to JCM800. The Marshall is not the best model but it has great models for everything from clean to blues to crunch to metal.
Ask Whammybar about his, he has that and also a Marshall SLX tube half-stack, so if he likes it A/Bed to the Marshall it ,ust sound pretty damn good.
Also it has all the basic sounds you'll need, but not so many models that you're standing there pondering which of the 16 high-gain metal modela sounds best? I don't like that myself, though some love it.
BTW, congrats on the Warmoth LP, sounds beautiful.

Re: El Toro's Official Guitarded Thread...
Thanks Lerx, it's been a long time coming...my kids seen me walk in the door with that case and knew exactly what was in it.....LOL....still love my Strat, but was ready for something new.
Now, as far as amplifiers go, I've actually plugged into a few modeling amps....a Line 6 and a Peavey Vypyr are the 2 most recent.
You have a plethora of sounds and effects at your fingertips....provided you read the manual and figure out how to switch the damned things on/off between the different effects & channels.
My hang-up with them is you're basically fucked if something happens to the motherboard in the processor...no going to bypass mode or something comparitively simple like a tube/capacitor replacement.
Granted, that isn't cheap either...buddy of mine just ordered a sextet(yes, 6) of JJ Tesla tubes for the old-ass Peavey Mace he's been lusting after for years...FeeBay score. it's a resto-mod job....re-skinning the cabinet with burgundy snakeskin-pattern Tolex, cleaning the hardware....new tubes/biasing, and he's going with a set of Eminence "Texas Heat" speakers. Not enough cut and clarity for me personally, but it isn't my amp.
Hell....half-tempted to build my own amp.

If I owned a modeling amp or processor I'd get the top Furman regulated power supply to protect it as well. Cost more than the damn amp, but it'd keep it safe.PAF Pro wrote:Thanks Lerx, it's been a long time coming...my kids seen me walk in the door with that case and knew exactly what was in it.....LOL....still love my Strat, but was ready for something new.

IIRC the Mace and Deuce have SS preamps and tube power sections. That Mace is just too much power, where can he open it up? This is why 20-watt tube amps are the big thing right now.
If I were looking for an older Peavey I'd either go for a Triumph or an Ultra, the forerunners to the XXX and JSX amps; or I'd get a VTM 60 or VTM 120, which are pretty nice JCM800 clones. The Butcher is cool too, predecessor to the VTM and similar but missing the adjustment sliders for gain and EQ. The VTMs are single-channel amps but would be a great platform for pedals or a modeling processor like the Vox Tonelab. Or straight in with a Tube Screamer for a pretty good JCM800 kinda sound. Oh it's not the same A/Bed with a real 800, but it's 1/3 to 1/4 the price and 85% of the tone, so it's a pretty damn good value. And Peaveys don't blow up like Marshalls do - they bias their tubes pretty cold so tubes last and last.

Matt this is awesome!!!!!
So I have been laying low on gear for a while now since things have been tight but I couldn't pass this up, it's an Agile AD201. I had a heard a lot of good things about a few of their guitars and I have been jonesing for a Special. Scored it used in as new condition and I have to say this guitar is ridiculous! The pups are excellent and respond to adjustments really well, the construction and finishing are first rate it just flat out rocks! All mahogany, Grovers, and the guy I got it from upgraded to CTS pots and a Sprague OD cap. Since it is sort of a retarded looking mix of a Jr/MM/Special I nicknamed it Corky.

$230 got it to my door.
New they go $250 plus shipping, I may grab another in red I like it so much.
It doesn't make any sense how good this guitar is.

Re: El Toro's Official Guitarded Thread...
Rondo Music carries Agile; their basic Les Paul Standard copy (AL2000) goes for $225 plus $23 shipping and is better fit and finish than the Epiphone Les Pauls. Their MOTO inlays actually don't look like plain plastic like the ones on the Epis do. They have more upscale models costing more but the cheapest ones still are nice guitars right out of the box.
They're not a real Les Paul but they're a helluva bang for the buck and you won't wanna die if you ding it while playing it either. Well, at least not because of he depreciation you just caused!
Rondo Music - king of the cheap but decent guitars! Where you can buy a halfway decent King V copy for $139.95!

Good warranty, odd that the loop completely fails though... I hear you 100% on the delay thing though! I have an ancient Ibanez HD1000 in my loop right now. Delay, chorus, flange and pitch shift, it's old but it sounds cool as fuck! Anyway, great that they are in town so you can take it in and not have to ship it off. I always cringe putting gear in the hands of the shipping apes, though I pack well enough that they'll have to take a forklift to it to fuck it up. But don't think they won't, the bastards!Sleek wrote:

Re: El Toro's Official Guitarded Thread...
I have two questions for the guitar experts....
1. I have a soldano hot rod 50 and I normally jam in my garage w/my drummer...lately I've been getting lots of interference. Lots of high pitched frequencies and I've even had a faint radio signal sneak in there as well. It's normally pretty hissy due to the high gain nature, but I'm thinking it's b/c of my extension cord that I'm using. It's pretty old and worn....could something that simple be the problem? I asked a buddy of mine the same question and he told me to spend some money on a good circuit breaker(w/multiple outlets) and a new extension cord that's worth a shit.
2. I'm going to the Spartanburg, SC guitar show this weekend and how do you guys w/multiple guitars keep your wife from killing you if you score another toy? How do you keep her off your back?

Re: El Toro's Official Guitarded Thread...
1. Old or bad cables can definitely be an issue, whether it's the extensxion cord, your guitar cable or the speaker cable. I dunno what kind of run you have but a 25' 3-prong extension doesn't cost much. PLEASE tell me you aren't using a 2-prong extension cord!Liquid Boom Boom wrote:I have two questions for the guitar experts....

2. My favorite excuse for new guitars is the alternate tuning thing - ""Baby, you have to set up each one for the gauge of strings and the tuning you're using!" Works pretty well; of course most of my guitars are Floyded too, so it's no bullshit! Change the tuning and the bridge is either gonna hang in the air or sink into the route.
Re: El Toro's Official Guitarded Thread...
The squealy shit can come from a bad speaker cord as well...make SURE it's not a sheilded cable and isn't all fucked up. Really mismatched ohmage can sometimes get that goin' on too.Liquid Boom Boom wrote:I have two questions for the guitar experts....
1. I have a soldano hot rod 50 blahblahblah...
All in all, I would think it's that or a cable out front...if the sheild goes on a guitar cable, you can get the stuff you're talking about, too.
You should plug straight in with a cable you KNOW is good and see if the amp still makes cheeze.
It also wouldn't hurt to check all your cables with an ohm/multimeter to make sure you aren't getting any crosstalk.

Good point, it could definitely be one of those. I'd just start with cables because they are the cheapest and easiest first step. Tubes are fragile, for sure, and caps can go after 10 years or so.
