It's recently got Lace Sensor Golds in it - not feelin' those too much.
Have you checked out the DiMarzio Area pups? They're awesome, no noise whatsoever.

Lindy Fralin or Rio Grande both kick much ass in a Strat.

Noiseless and Lace pick ups tend to lack character. As a quick "go to," Seymour Duncan makes the best, but if you hit Lindy Fralin for Vintage, you will love them.

Personally, I love hot sigle coiles, so Rio Grande or WB are great choices.

Yeah - I tried the Area 58 and Area 61 and they were okay. The Area 67 sounds more like what I want.

Bane/Toro - I might be making a call to Lindy here pretty soon. He's out in Richmond so I'm almost debating visiting him sometime.

I had a few extra minutes to kill this afternoon, so I stopped in Guitar Center to see what they had. Every guitar I picked up was nowhere near being set up properly... and they all were either tuned to drop D or way down three or four steps. I wonder why I don't buy anything at these places?

I'm so happy to be home strumming my Suhr. Sweet, sweet Suhr...

It's a Suhr Pro, one of the early ones (serial # 0175)

Mine looks just like that except it has a humbucker in the bridge position. Over the years, I've played hundreds of guitars, and I own a shitload of them... this is my favorite one to play. They know how put a bolt-on together. I keep thinking I should sell off a bunch of stuff and get a couple more.

I'm looking for a 30 watt tube amp...the usual suspects are the Peavey Vintage 30 and the Vox AC30.

The Vox is a little out of my range, but there is a Bugera clone of the Matchless Vox clone that goes for $437 new from ebay vendors...

I'm thinking 30 watts is perfect, with the 18/20 watt amps being a little underpowered, and 50 being too much.

Any other contenders I should check out?

Anybody got anything in this range they want to sell/trade?

I'll be watching this one closely, as I'm in the same boat. I'm thinking Peavey Delta Blues 115 or Orange Dual Terror at this point.

The Delta blues seems to be well liked, but I am looking for more tighter/Voxy than open/ringy/fendery.

People just shit themselves for the Fender Blues Jr. as well, but it's a bit low wattage, I'm thinkin'.

There's a 30 watt EL84 powered Crate that gets consistently rated as an excellent "poor man's Vox", but you walk in with a Crate an nobody is gonna take you fr rlz.

The Blues Jr. doesn't do it for me - way too boxy sounding.

Which Crate are you refering to? Some of 'em used to not say Crate on 'em, but it looks like they do now:

Maybe...the ones I have seen were cream tolex...model VC3112...(or 2x12).

The Blues Junior is a great little amp hobbled by a bad speaker. Run into a good cab and it opens up.

There are also a few mods that supposedly make it much more awesomer.

I'm sure the Blues Junior chassis construction is great, so I don't doubt that it sounds better with an extension cab. By the time you can purchase all the mods/tubes/speakers you could probably have a Deluxe Reverb!

What's the Crate head that's supposed to be a poor man's Plexi (or JCM, can't remember).
It's an older one, goes for $4-500 and I remember people raving about it.

Blue Voodoo? Marty Friedman used them when he was in Megadeth. I'd say it's more like a JCM if anything.

No, the ones you're remembering were made in USA about 10-15 years ago. The amp he posted pics of are their cheap Chinese vintage series of newer issue. They ARE DIRT-cheap and run EL84s though, and are supposedly improved a lot with a few basic mods. They also have a tendency to overheat and their drive sounds are muddy stock, but there is a mod for the muddiness.

I have a Rebel 20 and I like it, but it's a bit underpowered unless you have superefficient 4x12, but that sort of defeats what I am looking to do.

...which is put a rig together that puts soundmen and the other players at ease, as opposed to the fear you normally see when I bring in my Marshall head and 4x12

The Laney sounds nice, but it costs as much as an Ac30 CC, and if I wanted spend that I'd just get the Vox. (Had one, really liked it, never used it, now I wish I had it!)

I've seen these going pretty cheap, and they look comforting...but only 20 watts:

The plus side for me is that they offer a 1-12" version, something Vox killed off a while back. I like the 1-12" setup. I think the Laney can be had for about $700.

The Lionheart stuff is cool too.

I was talking with a soundman buddy of mine last night, and I'm thinking maybe I just need to trade my way into another AC30. (He also suggested a Deluxe, but I just ain't feeling the Fender "thing".)

It's about perfect on every front.

...I might sell stuff, too. I wonder if I could find somebody who would trade a 5150 +4x12 for an AC30CC2...hmmmm.....

I did order a BBE Freq boost today, (Rangemaster clone), so I can scratch the itch I am feeling for a treble booster. For $50, it's worth it to try out.

Yeah, that's a great price for a new Alchemist - just wanted to make sure they weren't trying to hawk a Spider Valve as a Bogner. They DO say Bogner in fine print on the panel, LOL! Not that the Spider Valve isn't really cool for what it is though.

You know, like when people put Gibson in the ad headline and then it's "Gibson Epiphone" in the text. I hate that shit, not that I'd expect you to do it. Just that $700 really sounds like a Spider Valve price, ya know?
