Re: El Toro's Official Guitarded Thread...
Dumb luck found me today and hooked me up with a '69 SG Standard w/a maestro that just sings and a '57 Guild X-50 (Think ES-125).
Just released a CD today too.
It was a great day for music in my world, whoohoo.

Thanks it's cool that there are still some days like that from time to time. Got some cool low key stuff happening and finding some cool guitars, well that's always a great thing. Scored the 2 of them for less than the cost of a '61R/I so big smiles on my part.

Re: El Toro's Official Guitarded Thread...
That SG and the archtop look like a lot of fun.....flatwounds on the archtop?
As far as the trans-black suggestion.....not really into that. Am getting some more nitro in tomorrow, will add the amber dye to it directly....and then straight to the top(my ruby flametop Standard has the black highlights on the flame.....no need for another one). I'll toss some pics up when the first coat goes on...did final sanding on the top last night, wiped a slightly dampened towel across it....the flame on that top is UNREAL.
Decided to stick with passives, taking this in more of a vintage-type direction...some low-powered PAF-types, all braided wiring and some PIO's...need to hit Jonesy's website and make a decision on caps(I'll do a .022 cap on the bridge, may pick up a .015 for the neck...seems to be a good combo on "Ruby", using those values with Orange Drop caps), I already have the braided wire.
Now.....another decision. Black or Gold speedknobs? Not decided on whether I'll use a pickguard yet...that'll be determined by how goofy I get over the top finish.

Not sure how I am going to use but a good chance they'll be flatwounds.

Re: El Toro's Official Guitarded Thread...
Yeah, "veneer-eal disease" pretty much sums it up, LOL
Still a white maple top under it...I'm guessing it's plain or something oddball in the grain(it is solid, though..no shenanigans). No matter....amber nitro to start, then most likely cherry around the edge(have a can of the StewMac rattle-can shit that a friend loaned, it actually replicates Gibson's stuff very well)....though about something along the lines of a Duane Allman "Hot'Lanta" burst, but that's a bit more involved than I care to go at this time(perhaps if I do a '59 build in the future). Am going back and forth on doing the standard red mahogany finish on the back and neck, or something else....the "dark-back" on some of the old 50's goldtops is intriguing.
I was initially against the burst for this on the basis of not wanting it to be an Ace clone. But....hell, I already HAVE a black guitar(my Peavey Predator...when I do the refin on the body, it WILL remain black), and I figure if I do finally get off my ass and try to go play out somewhere, that amber and flame will pop under stage light a hell of a lot better than a plain black paintjob.

What kind of kit is that dude? Bulldog? I've been toying with the idea of doing an LP build myself and that kit looks great. I've done a few Strats and Teles, but never an LP.PAF Pro wrote:Yeah, "veneer-eal disease" pretty much sums it up, LOL

Recommend me a fairly all-purpose delay pedal with a tap. For $200. Any brand.

Thanks for the suggestions... Both look like they'd do the job, but given I've had good experiences with my other EH pedals, I'm leaning that way. Hadn't realized there was a Deluxe version with the tap tempo.
Anyone know anything about this? Right at the limit of what I'm willing to spend.

I've actually been watching that EH box...it has an effects loop on the dalay, which sounds like a very cool thing...like, you could have flange just on the delay or whatevs.demolition23 wrote:Thanks for the suggestions... That being said, I like my Echo Park a lot...it does everything I need and only takes up one pedal space...

Sold off my '10 SG Std today, got a few more things to move and then maybe something cool.
I'm totally in love with that '57 Guild I picked up. Working on Django and Charlie Christian, just sounds killer on it.

Re: El Toro's Official Guitarded Thread...
I still haven't been to the studio to pick it up. It's been one of those weeks, or two weeks or whatever it's been. It's sitting patiently in it's case wondering where the hell I've been. I'll definitely post a pic soon as it's in my possession again though. Frankenstrat may be the wrong title for it though. It's more of a Partsocaster, with good parts.ElToro wrote:Where's the Frankenstrat?

I'm looking at a new Washburn acoustic (cutaway w/electronics). Getting tired of the Seagull I have. The Washburn sounds brighter, but I don't know what model it is. If I do get it, I'll post the info.ElToro wrote:anyone get anything fun?
