I'd probably do a Duncan Phat Cat in the neck. For the single coil bridge, a Little 59 from Duncan can get surprisingly fat like a P-90 with the tone rolled down.

Funny, after checking out all the boutique pickups, I'm pretty sure I will be going with that exact combo..I have Duncans in all of my other guitars, why change now right?..I only paid $200.00 for the guitar, so I'm not going crazy on upgrades..Maybe some Sperzel, or Grover tuners, new nut, and pots/pickups.

I have tried EVERYTHING, from the cheapest to the most boutique, and somehow I keep coming back to Duncans and DiMarzios.

That's awesome. For difficult, I usually go after nerdy stuff.

I love the electric sheetmusic. Enough to give away a wopping shitload of paper.

Especially since you can hear it when it's something you're not familiar with. When you have the prasing of something slightly um, wrong.

Although the most embarassing was learning Rock & Roll Hootchie Koo, and them assuming I would learn the Johnny Winter version.

Has anyone logged any time with one of the Line 6 Spider Valve combos? Have an opportunity to pick one up on the cheap and it'd be nice to have a smaller practice amp that won't piss off the neighbors.

Yeah, it's apparently Bogner designed or something, I guess. It has a Bogner badge on the grille cloth. The reviews I'm reading seem kind of all over the place.

Thanks for the feedback/recommendations. I went ahead and picked it up - it was only $90 (Craigslist score), so figured what the hell. I haven't had more than 20 minutes or so to mess around w/it so far, but the first thing that struck me is how ungodly loud this little 1x12 combo is. It appears to compete with my 5150 2x12, volume-wise. So much for a humble little practice amp, I guess. Still, it sounds good at bedroom volumes and definitely didn't take long to dial in a good DeMartini-esque sound as well as very convincing 80's thrash tone. It took well to active EMGs but my Strat sounded very nice (Noiseless PU set), too. I didn't get any of that 'fizzy' digital amp modeler sound that I generally associate with Line 6 stuff. The reverb is sensitive as hell, though.

One odd thing I noticed - so it's equipped with a Celestion V30, but it says "Made in China" on the speaker. Since when are V30s manufactured in China??

I took the plunge and bought a bunch of fretting tools. Also built a neck jig that I saw some guy on youtube using. I did a complete level/crown/polish on my warmoth strat neck and it's playing pretty awesome now. Here's a pic midway through the job.
