Phil Varone retires

Post by plasticbastard » Thu Mar 14, 2019 2:01 pm

-No Drums No More...Although I’ve given interviews announcing my retirement from drumming, it seems people think I’m kidding...So this is I thought an official post... This is my farewell to drumming tour. There is no big story other than I no longer have a passion for drumming. As I get older in life, drums have fallen to the bottom of my list. As I get older in life, drums hurt instead of making me happy... When you’re not happy or lose the passion in anything you do, it’s time to gracefully bow out. After 30 years I’m gracefully bowing out. I just recorded the greatest record of my career with Jake E Lee and Red Dragon Cartel, and I’m playing with the greatest players of my career. I leave in a good , grateful place. I have the best fans in the world, and I truly thank you from the bottom of my heart for the love, for the support and for being apart of my musical career...I hope you follow me to the next chapter of my life, when the time comes... until then, thank you for 30 years a drummer...

Is he still doing porn? Because if its between riding in a van with Jake E. Lee and dropping loads all over the land, I can see why he's retiring.

Those 27 people who saw his last live show w/Bullet boys in LA never realized what a historical night it was!

RED DRAGON QUITEL
Phil Varone throwing in the towel after 2 weeks on tour, is Jake E. Lee next?
#RedDragonCartel #PhilVarone #IQuit #JakeELee #Patina #RDC #PhilIsDoneWithDrums #ExSaigonKick #MetalSludge
http://metalsludge.tv/red-dragon-quitel ... -lee-next/

I'm hearing jake is "over it" and this tour may be his last run of dates.

I can see why....their tour bus broke down on show #2, which they missed and had to cancel.

Now Phil is bailing...and who knows what else is going on?

Remember, the first album...they toured with 7 singers.

Obvi, DJS is back...and will never live down the drunken Whisky debut, but...Jake doesn't seem to tolerate much...my guess is the next 2 weeks is gonna be hit n' miss.

Thoughts?

It doesn't help attendance numbers when he announces that he's not gonna play the few hits he had with Ozzy. Instead he plays one fuckin' obscure B-side that only diehard Ozzy-tards would know. I've seen a few posters say "He played a few blocks away last night but I didn't bother going after he announced that".
Stupid move since it's the only thing he's known for. People tolerate the RDC material to get to the next Ozzy/Badlands song.

Goddamn shame. The whole thing.

The fact that ANYONE shows up to these gigs despite all the bullshit goes to show that people really dig Jake and the records he was on back in the 80s.

He’s gone for twenty years, comes back with a god-awful singer and a weak band, and proceeds to do everything he can to get the word out that people shouldn’t come to the gigs.

This second go around he has some credible players with him, but insists on keeping this singer that was subpar in the first place, and then announces he’s not playing any of the music that made people know who he is in the first place.

I mean, why fucking bother invest the time and money to get this thing going if you’re going to actively work to sabotage it? Why not just start a local band with some guys that live in his neighborhood or something?

Oni Logan our it out there he wanted to be involved in the second RDC album... had Jake hired him and played the shit people wanted to hear, I think they would have found themselves in a nice opening spot on a big tour in about 5 fucking minutes.

But why do that when you hang out in a broke down van with Phil Varone?

yah, seems odd, must be zero fucks are given by Jake and he is just doing whatever the fuck he wants (not a huge departure from the last 20 years or so)

Phil is finishing out the tour, right??

The band is Red Dragon Cartel, not Ozzy Osbourne. Not sure why it’s so hard to comprehend the guy is attempting to establish a new band.

Because he's old and washed up. No one buys or listens to new music anymore, certainly not anyone over 40 (his target audience). "Not sure why it's so hard to comprehend."

People comprehend just fine. He will establish nothing without an audience.

Listen boss, if Blackstar Riders can bag the opening spot on that Judas Priest tour, anything is possible.

Jake and his crew already have too much of a reputation for cancelling shows to get booked on a major tour. Not to mention major tour openings acts are either A.) Bought or B.) Placed on the tour with an expectation they help boost ticket sales. RDC have little money/backing, and only draw 100 people to clubs, so they don’t tick box A or B.

Finally, the BSR comparison is a bad one. BSR have released three quality records of original material, hardly play any Lizzy tunes, and have a way better rep than Jake re dependability. Gorham and Warwick are pros.

He’s pretty young to be retiring isn’t he - maybe mid 50’s? Unless he has some type of back issue like Phil Collins?
