I'm a Tele purist, in that if I want anything even remotely Tele-ish, I want a legit Fender Tele with single coils and a maple neck. Preferably a Butterscotch Blonde. But then, Teles are too small for me, anyway.
I’m usually a humbucker guy, but the Washburns I bought with the Bill Lawrence split coils are changing my mind a bit.
This has split coils as well.
We’ll see.
I’ve owned the Schecter Hellraiser before, and was not a fan. Mostly because of the painted neck...definitely a deal breaker for me on any guitar. Hand sticks to back of neck. That’s why I sold the Gretsch I bought not long ago.
Was looking at Michael Kelly Tele as well.
Anyone have any MK guitars?

Oh, I didn't even notice the coil tap. The Epi I just bought has them too, and it's great. The array of tones you can get with pups that coil tap is crazy.

Come to think of it, other than my acoustics, both of the electrics I play the most have painted necks. I never even thought about that.

Pretty guitars, Mojo and AP. Although I probably wouldn't have a use for either of them. My brother really wants a Tele with humbuckers but like Mojo said, I don't know what the purpose of that would be. A coil tapped humbucker is not going to yield a different tone in a Tele shaped guitar than it would in a LP shaped guitar or any other body shape. But I understand not everybody has a use for the specific telecaster sound.

I've long since understood that I am not compatible with hollow body guitars, particularly with humbucker pickups. Kinda jealous of people who can work with them. They frustrate the fuck out of me.

I’ve never actually played mini humbuckers, but I’d have to presume they’re kinda similar to Filtertrons in tone. Are they? Like a humbucker but with P-90’s jizz on them?

I've been over it before but I hated them in my old Les Paul Deluxe. I have a feeling I would dig them more now that I have the effects and EQ to adjust to them. Don't know about in hollow guitars but in a solid body they are really tinny and thin. Not as warm as P-90s. Like having strat pickups with no hum and less twang. They don't have that little hillbilly accent like Filtertrons either.

Mini hums are just sort of humbuckers with a more narrowly focused midrange and less low-end flub.

Prominent users: seventies Thin Lizzy (both guitarists), seventies Pete Townshend (live). You want that tight, midrangey Jailbreak thing, minis get you there.

They work great with hollows/semi hollows, because they sort of refocus the midrange of the guitar...you have a guitar that tends toward flub, then the pickups fix that. To my ear minis are like humbuckers, but without the bullshit frequencies

I will also say that the 12 string Riviera with mini hums is the best sounding electric 12, and I'll cut a bitch over that. Fuck Rickenbacker.

Not sure how they compare to filtertrons. That gretsch thing is a whole different can of worms. That said, Malcolm young had a very mini-humish sound with 'trons in a solid body.

This new Sheraton has the coil tapped full buckers. I was playing around with switching them mid-song, and the damned single coil is louder than with the whole thing on. I hybrid pick almost everything that isn’t a strummed chord, and I got some fantastic tones out of my previous Sheraton by having the single coil sound for riffs and then switching to the full humbucker for power chord choruses, etc. Imma have to fuck around with the poles to see if I can get a more even volume between the two.

It will be here on Wednesday.
Never had a Tele shaped guitar.
Looking forward to it.
So this was a bust!
Day 44 of a 45 day warranty I went to change strings and noticed a hairline crack in the center of the fretboard about 5” long. Spanned about 6 frets.
On its way back now.
Last time I order a Schecter.
I’ve had 2 and found issues with both.

It's just a link to the Gretsch site, rather than a specific guitar. Which one are you referring to?

The official Gretsch site is '.com' not '.us'. This came up on my FB feed and it says it's some kind of Fathers Day deal on all the guitars there. They're all less than 100 bucks. Seems a little too good to be true. I'm looking at the 5622s but they're all ridiculously cheap.

Seems pretty obvious but I couldn't find any mention of it online. Usually you look it up and if it's bullshit, there's immediately tons of screaming warnings about it. Looked it up: nothing. No reviews, no thumbs up, no thumbs down, zilch. Goddammit, I want a hundred dollar Gretsch.

Facebook. I already said that didn't I?

But it comes across like totally legit, "sponsored" whatever that means. Right alongside the Guitar Center, Sweetwater and Reverb ads.

Would anyone have reservations about buying a guitar off reverb if the seller is from Russia?

it looks nice, I assume Reverb offers protection.

Thoughts?

Edit: It's also not like it's Moscow. It's from some Borat-style wilderness!

It’s the standard $699
Plays much better than the Stealth I used to have and supposedly has same pickups.

My thoughts are that I personally do trust Reverb and I once sold a bass to someone in Russia on eBay with no problems.
Italy's the country I've had to watch for. I sold a guitar to someone in Italy, and the guy had me ship it to an addy across the border in Switzerland, saying he couldn't trust the Italian postal system.
If I were you, I'd poke around Reverb, and see if there's any comments about buying from Russia.

Nice! I'm on the fence about picking one of those up. For that price, how can you go wrong? I think Mexican strats that need upgrades on electronics, and hardware are going for that!

I was extremely surprised how it plays.
Very little set up needed also.
Ordering another one next week.
Interested to see if I got a cherry or if they all play that well.
