What does "doing better" than mean?

Not saying he's not doing good, or great... but... Foreigner doesn't play every week, or every weekend all year long.

My guess is... I am pretty sure he's not getting ANY royalties, that the Foreigner band/brand brings in from their catalog.

Maybe from some "live" performance royalties, when a Live performance is replayed via T.V., a movie, or a live recording release but all those big hits, he sees none of that.

Also... I find it odd that the mention of ANY 80's rocker, who was part of any of the bands, that didn't sell 10 million records, and that guy is no longer in the band, the general thought is "that guy is broke" or "he's flipping burgers".

Lots of people in entertainment, sports, etc... that didn't have huge success, went onto be successful in other ventures in life.

Pilson might even be doing better than him. He did production work on their last few albums.

Although, I did see that Pilson is playing bass sitting in a chair until he has back surgery...

So, I guess you're insinuating that every band or musician that has ever played the Rainbow parking lot party is beneath him, or them?

To my recollection Foreigner have never played M3, or Rocktember, or the MORCruise, or most of these festivals... so are these similarly "awful" in your eyes?

I'm assuming you mean the lower tier bands, and not the Bon Jovi, Poison, Crue's of the world.

I'd think Nuno is making a nice living. Extreme plays to some fairly large crowds, and he's done every Rhianna tour since about 2010. He's always asked back, so he's probably making more than the Extreme gigs

I'm sure there are a some out there who are smart with their money and know how to maximize their profits. CEO would be a great example. Some minor success, but still making money off an album from decades ago.

Tesla, Night Ranger, Winger seem to put out albums every couple years and play to some largish crowds. They always struck me as bands that have been smart with their brands.

But what do I know, they could all be broke.

Is the point you’re trying to make is Kelly getting paid well to front the band , your answer is yes. A lot of the other ancillary business portions of the group are handled and owned by Mick Jones.

So weird that they feel the need to have a big farewell tour when the band is all scabs. Just replace Hansen with someone else. No one would even notice. As long as it still says Foreigner on the marquee the casuals don’t know or care.

I don't get this thread. New albums don't mean shit in 2023. Scab Foreigner totally overachieves on the touring circuit. They do 1-2 Vegas residencies at the Venetian every year and headline sheds/small arenas/casinos throughout the rest of the country.

Yes, Kelly Hansen is doing better than MOST hair metal dudes these days. I don't think Foreigner would even bother with M3 type gigs.

It's doesn't matter what I think anyway... right?

But if you asked 100, 1,000 or 10,000 people who was the BEST singer to come out of the 80's... I think it's safe to say, that Kelly Hansen would not top anyone's list.

In reality, he might not make their Top 5 or even their Top 10... and that's not a dis, but rather. a reality.

And for the record, I think he's a great singer, great frontman, and from what I've heard, a really good guy too.

But his band, Hurricane, was no bigger than 99% of the so-called D-list bands... he just happen to be the right guy for this gig in Foreigner, and he does it very well!
