Been listening to a lot of DOKKEN

Post by Chip Z'Hoy »

Some would say I'm ROKKEN WITH DOKKEN.

I wouldn't, but some would. 8)

Good call. Does this include Up From the Ashes?

They'd have a great discography if they had limited themselves to their 80s output.

I was just listening to a bootleg from that tour, what a phenomenal band that was. I'm still holding out hope that there's a high-quality soundboard from that era somewhere that will eventually get mixed and released. All we have is one medicore video from Japan and a couple of crappy bootlegs of other shows.

I think Crash and Burn is one of the best songs from Don's career, and for all the shit Don gets about his voice, it's honestly pretty impressive how strong his voice still was around this period.

It would be interesting to see what people's perceptions would be of that album in an alternate universe where Don got his way and it was sold as a "Dokken" album rather than as a "Don Dokken solo album". I think it would've been a MS holy trinity candidate.

Recently listened to an interview with Billy White, apparently he gave a tape of him playing to Warren DiMartini's guitar tech, and it eventually ended up in Don's hands. Don called him and was like "I can't tell you who I am but I want to fly you out you LA to write some songs", but let slip that they were currently touring on Monsters of Rock, lmao.

Join the cool club. Smoke some weed while listening to Dokken so you can say you've been...

TOKKIN' WITH DOKKEN

On second thought, that's an awful idea.

I think Beast from the East is the best 80s metal live album. They are in top form. The harmonies are tight and Lynch just tears it up

Still a solid one. I like that early 80s hard rock / metal sound. The other three are more alike.

I was just on a Dokken tear recently. The post 80’s albums are pretty good too. It’s a different vibe but the songs are still very solid.

The guitar work alone on Back For The Attack makes it worth a listen. Every solo absolutely kills and his tone was red hot.

The new one (out this Friday - Heave Comes Down) is really good. Don cannot really sing live anymore, but they do a good job covering for this in studio, where he sounds better and harmonies are used well. If it's their last, they go out pretty strong. New Lynch Mob is pretty solid, too.

This reminds me, I need to check out Erase the Slate with Reb Beach, never listened to it.

I thought Dysfunctional sucked though, so my expectations aren't all that high...

I thought Dysfunctional had a couple of good songs. The first four are pretty good. Problem is that after that it's one stinker after the other.
