Favorite Dream Theater Tracks

Post by BDG135 »

Do any of you Dream Theater fans have some track recommendations? I suspect you don't think their best songs are "Pull Me Under" and "Take The Time".

I will always direct newcomers to, if not all of “A Change Of Seasons”, at least the first part of it, “The Crimson Sunrise”

They used to open their shows with it in the mid-late 90s and it’s a big part of what made me a fan growing up.

Their entire albums are better than single tracks?

I only really ever got into Images and Words and Awake. Besides Pull Me Under I also enjoyed 6:00 and Caught In A Web...

Yes, saying “Eat My Ass And Balls” in Morse code via a syncopated rhythm = automatically an absolutely amazing piece of work! :D

I go more by albums too for some reason, these are my go to's:

Metropolis Pt. 2: Scenes from a Memory (1999)
Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence (2002)
Train of Thought (2003)
Octavarium (2005)
Systematic Chaos (2007)
Black Clouds & Silver Linings (2009)
A View from the Top of the World (2021)

Train of Thought and A View from the Top of the World are getting the most play right now.
It's good to be bad
It's the best time you'll ever have
What the hell is this ultra sad
Pray for your cool and work on that ass!

These are some of my favorites:

Hell's Kitchen
Trial of Tears
Strange Deja Vu
The Dance of Eternity
Octavarium
Panic Attack
Never Enough
Stream of Consciousness
In the Name of God
Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence (all of disc2)

*all Portnoy era. I’m not that into the Mangini era although there are some good songs. I’m pumped to hear their comeback album with Portnoy!
