Pat Badger from Extreme doesn't get anything like the credit he deserves. Steller player with amazing vocals too.
The only thing that ever made sense to me - Is the words to a song from an American movie!

The bassist for Al Solo in Buenos Aires. The dude is is a pain the ass, however, he's a GREAT player. Top notch. He can play everything, he has the perfect "fender precission" motown bass sound, etc etc.

As a former bass player back in the day: For bands covered on this board, Geddy Lee, Steve Harris and Billy Sheehan seems the obvious answers to me.

I’ll add:
Tom Petersson (Cheap Trick)
Simon Gallup (The Cure)
Tommy Stinson (The Replacements)
Paul Raven (Killing Joke)
Came to post Sami Yaffa too. He really drives the songs and has the perfect rock bass sound.

Lot of great bassists out there! I always harken back to motown/funk/soul bassists, a la James Jamerson

For me it’s the ones who you can tell from their style and/or can write a song as well as play within it:
Lemmy
Duff
Steve Harris
Nigel Mogg
Kelly nickels
The guy from the stranglers
To name just a few
