Re: the best band of the 90s is?
If I narrowed it down to bands I still regularly listen to it would be as follows.
1 . Rob Zombie
2. The Offspring
3. Green Day.
Unfortunately for Marilyn Manson, he’s been scrubbed from history as a artist anyone will admit to liking. But there is some fantastic albums there in the 90’s . Regardless of whether he’s a piece of shit or not.

Except that they broke out and recorded their best stuff in the 80s.

No they didn’t. Bellybutton was released in the summer of 1990.Bono Nettencourt wrote: ↑Tue Dec 26, 2023 7:30 amExcept that they broke out and recorded their best stuff in the 80s.
As much as I’m a fan of Silent Planet and Gretchen, Faith is my favorite and KX have never released a bad album as far as I’m concerned.
People are dropping U2, Pantera and the Afghan Wigs in this thread and you decided to single my picks out? Seriously?

From 1995 to 2000, The Jester Race to Clayman, In Flames were untouchable.

Mother Love Bone? The band known for having 2 dudes that end up in Pearl Jam? That inspired Temple of the Dog?

I dunno. "Chloe Dancer/Crown of Thorns" is a great song. Not the best song of the 90's, but a vastly underrated long epic.DemonFilth2001 wrote: ↑Tue Dec 26, 2023 5:54 pmMother Love Bone? The band known for having 2 dudes that end up in Pearl Jam? That inspired Temple of the Dog?

1st 3 Pearl Jam albums > 1st 3 Nirvana albums and it's not close. Way better live act too. I think half the reason blowbrains ended it was because his stardom was slipping away. After Nevermind, the best thing that happened to them was that he died. In Utero didn't go double platinum til after he blew his head off.St_Augustines_Pears wrote: ↑Wed Dec 27, 2023 10:55 pmI agree.Dyslexicheart wrote: ↑Sun Dec 24, 2023 1:21 am I'll state the obvious and say Nirvana, based on the songwriting, live performances and record sales.

Re: the best band of the 90s is?
I saw PJ live seven times between 1992-93. Love them. Saw Nirvana once, and that one performance was far better than any of the PJ shows. I only like the first two PJ albums, but love Nirvana's entire catalog. You're right, it's not close.Bono Nettencourt wrote: ↑Thu Dec 28, 2023 2:01 am1st 3 Pearl Jam albums > 1st 3 Nirvana albums and it's not close. Way better live act too. For me Rammstein and Type O Negative.
I think those are the only two from the 90s I still listen to.

Hm. Jellyfish is in there for sure.
Two most impressive shows I saw in the nineties tho were NIN at the Palace and Blur at the Palladium.
Spice Girls in '98 was a great show too, but I don't consider them a band.

Lots of great choices mentioned. For me - and the band I listened to the most during that era - was the Black Crowes. I’d say up until By Your Side, they were probably the greatest live band touring then.

Re: the best band of the 90s is?
At risk of Tommy giving me hell, I'm going to say The Jesus Lizard. Apparently the best live band of the 90's but I wouldn't know because my one shot was ruined by getting both pinkeye and bronchitis at the same time. Mom wouldn't let me go (I was in high school).
I'd be okay with nominating Alice in Chains. That s/t isn't great but they had a run that was pretty incredible and really forged a unique sound that is now the standard.
Jellyfish: I'm only familiar with Spilt Milk. Don't know why I never bothered to check out Bellybutton. I know the song that was on MTV but that's it.
Spilt Milk has a couple songs that are just incredible. I guess the good news is I got a new Jellyfish album to check out.

King's X! Great band, great run in the 90's for sure.
