Does MEGADETH deserve to be in the RNRHOF?
I'm not sure.
Great band. Had a run of albums that were near-godly. Pussed out in the 90's but bounced back and have been consistently pretty good since. Even their last album was good.
But, and I think this factors in quite a bit, who names them as an influence? I think I've only ever seen Lamb of God mention them. Sold millions, one of the few metal bands to do sort of okay in the 90's, and they're never mentioned.
Friggin' ANTHRAX gets more recognition. That has to sting.

Re: Does MEGADETH deserve to be in the RNRHOF?
Not especially. I love Megadeth, but Metallica being already in kind of fills the quota for the thrash genre, I'd say. Though now that I think about it, I could see Slayer getting in as an influence on a bunch of bands. It's like the OP said, Megadeth don't exactly get counted as an influence on that many other acts.

Re: Does MEGADETH deserve to be in the RNRHOF?
I would say Mustaine by himself, maybe. But the band Megadeth? Who would you put in?
Ellefson would be obvious being an original member and his tenure.
Megadeth's original lineup didn't last long. The only other lineup that people really love is the RIP lineup. But even they only really had one great album, then next 2 were decent but a step down, and then just went to shit after that. I couldn't imagine including anyone after the RIP lineup.
I guess it would be Mustaine, Ellefson, Poland, Gar, Marty and Nick. And 2 are no longer here. It would be strange. And Mustaine would be an ass and make backhanded compliments about the others. He's not wrong that he is Megadeth, but it's douchey when he alludes to that.

Just my opinion obviously but no and especially not before Slayer, Pantera, Slipknot, and even Korn if we’re talking influential metal bands. Like someone else was sort of getting at, too much Metallica overlap.

It would be funny as f if Ellefson was left out after disgracing himself.

Fuck no... Slayer and Metallica yes, but not Megadave.
And the fact that Priest only got that lesser award is just heresy, they were a huge influence.

Re: Does MEGADETH deserve to be in the RNRHOF?
I think both Slayer and Anthrax are more deserving of the RRHOF than Megadeth.
If Megadeth were in the RRHOF, I think the guys that get in are Mustiane/Ellefson/Poland/Samuelson/Menza/Friedman.

Dave should have been inducted with Metallica, because he deserves to be there.

Re: Does MEGADETH deserve to be in the RNRHOF?
I'm surprised by all this. Dave is the godfather of thrash plain and simple. No Dave, no Metallica. Go back and listen to Kill Em All, that doesn't exist without him.
At the same time RNRHOF is a really bad joke. Who cares what they think? Maybe it's better to not be in it.

Re: Does MEGADETH deserve to be in the RNRHOF?
Correction...he was "invited" but wasn't attending either way...while being in the early line up he's not on any recorded releases just songwriting credits which the HOF asks to be a requirement ( I think) ...as far as the award itself....Who knows? Could have been mailed to him, sent to his mgmt, etceddie lee roth wrote: ↑Wed Jan 17, 2024 10:18 amDid he receive the award?djwill665 wrote: ↑Wed Jan 17, 2024 10:09 amTechnically he was but had prior commitments that prevented his appearance during that ceremony.killeverything wrote: ↑Mon Jan 15, 2024 12:59 am Dave should have been inducted with Metallica, because he deserves to be there.

I thought he wasn't inducted, because he didn't play on the albums. I think I remember him saying something like "everyone knows I deserve to be in there."djwill665 wrote: ↑Wed Jan 17, 2024 10:09 amTechnically he was but had prior commitments that prevented his appearance during that ceremony.killeverything wrote: ↑Mon Jan 15, 2024 12:59 am Dave should have been inducted with Metallica, because he deserves to be there.

Were they more influential to Rock & Roll than Donna Summer?
It's a hard question to answer, ain't it?
P.S. I didn't say, "the music industry." I said, "Rock & Roll."

I've seen Slayer a bunch of times, with Anthrax opening, with Megadeth opening...
Maybe Countdown to Extinction sold more than any Slayer album but that's it...
Slayer were always the bigger live draw / festival headliner / merch seller / etc. Slayer cashed out headlining two shows at the LA Forum; Megadeth just played my town last August, they played the Olympia, a 2000-capacity theater!
And Reign in Blood is always above any Megadeth album in any thrash album ranking!
I will, however, give you this: Anthrax is the little 1. First 3 letters are ant. Scott Ian's shorter than Dio. And their claim to fame is a guest appearance on Married with Children.

Re: Does MEGADETH deserve to be in the RNRHOF?
My girlfriend and I sometimes play the 'who deserves/doesn't deserve to be in the HOF" game. Not based on the actual HOF or it's rules or who they have or haven't already inducted, but we try to objectively look at different bands and figure out should or shouldn't make the cut. I don't think Megadeth should. Someone above mentioned that Mustaine could have been inducted with Metallica and that tends to make the most sense to me. Sort of like with Sammy getting inducted with Van Halen. I don't think he makes the cut as a solo artist or with Montrose but his years with Van Halen were enough to push him over the edge. but back to Megadeth, I'm not even sure any of the other three of the Big 4 should be there, but if I had to pick one, it would be Slayer though I'm not sold on them deserving it either. It can make for good conversation though.

Speaking of the RNRHOF. Of course it’s already a dead issue about their credibility but I still watched the HBO broadcast. The night it aired always seemed like a happening with the repeated airings and all that good shit. I totally missed this last one and feel like I didn’t miss a thing. Congratulations Mr. Rolling Stone magazine owner. You’ve shit the bed again.

No, not always, and I see way more Megadeth shirts at shows than Slayer shirts.

1) Why are you bringing up W.A.S.P.? (And it's W.A.S.P., not Wasp, have some respect for Blackie!) Shit, even Metallica opened for W.A.S.P.... I'm just pointing out the obvious that Slayer is the obvious headliner when paired with Megadeth or AnthraxHoldenSSV wrote: ↑Thu Jan 18, 2024 2:39 pmPsychobolia.com wrote: ↑Wed Jan 17, 2024 3:33 pm I've seen Slayer a bunch of times, with Anthrax opening, with Megadeth opening...

2) Speaking of Sales, Slayer had Rick Sales managing them, the better manager. Tom Araya can relax while Mustaine slugs it out in 2000 seaters in his 60's! Ok, I'll admit I was off on the album sales...
3) I can't help it if the shows you go to are gay!
