Not really rock or metal, even though he did play on the Power Station record...

Re: Favorite Rock and Metal Drummers
Alex Van Halen is my all time favorite.
A lot of the obvious ones are up there for me - John Bonham, Dave Grohl and Taylor Hawkins, Mike Portnoy, Vinnie Paul, Carter Beauford, Danny Carey, Chad Smith, etc.
Some of my favorites off the top of my head who I consider criminally underrated = Eric Kretz, Sean Kinney, Bill Ward, Tre Cool, Ben Thatcher, Brad Wilk, David Silveria, John Otto.
…and I’m always the guy insisting that Lars is a great drummer and an even better musician/songwriter. Flame away, you’re not changing my mind on this one.

Totally agree - Incredibly creative drummer (especially through And Justice For All) who founded many identifiable thrash drummer essentials. He was no typical 4/4 fuck me baby, 80's drummer trying to recreate the feminine Bonham.SterileEyes1 wrote: ↑Thu Mar 07, 2024 5:16 pm …and I’m always the guy insisting that Lars is a great drummer and an even better musician/songwriter. I love what Mario Duplantier from Gojira does. Super fast and heavy when needed, but has technical ability and imagination. https://youtu.be/UhHz_2Bo0Cs?si=SO7i9PRxkLyTVa32

Love it! I saw that I had a reply to this thread and thought “Oh god, here we go, that train’s never late on this subject!” and then read your post and smiled. Totally agree.
