Sebastian Bach - Child Within the Man

Post by VinnieStJohn »

Thoughts? Lyrics can be pretty cringey and there is some filler, but overall probably Sebastian's best, and better than it has the right to be in 2024. His voice sounds better than the last album as well

Started listening to it this morning and it sounds awesome so far. Freedom was a fantastic track

Listened to the whole thing this morning, and Yes, it is probably his best solo work. The sound is amazing, and the band kills it. Voice is pretty solid as well.

Some filler, but overall, really good. More bands outta stop trying to "evolve" and just go back to their original sound. In this case, it actually sounds like it could have come out after Slave and been a hit.

Best tunes
the 3 already released
Crucify Me
F.U
Freedom

Won't ever be played on the radio like he probably wants, but To Live Again might be the best song I've heard in a while. at least the best rock ballad..

Kinda rips off riff from On With the Show, but I could imagine this being a massive hit back in the day

I think it's great and much stronger than I was expecting. The songs come off much better if you don't watch the videos that go along with them or see him in anyway. Then you can still pretend it's 1992.

It's weird, I was expecting the last Skid Row record with Eric to be great and that was a disappointment and I felt the lyrics were cheesy. It felt boring. And I would have expected a new Sebastian Bach CD to be that way too but instead it's really good. Maybe it's Freaky Friday or something. It's the best solo stuff he's done and I don't see why anybody who liked the first two Skid Row records wouldn't like this. It feels in the same vein but also doesn't sound dated.

I thought this album title was a joke. Then it turned out it was real.

Were the drum tracks recorded in the drum hut?

Threw it on in the car and went for a drive. First time I've done that for a new album by anyone in ages, but the previously released tracks had me intrigued.

After one listen, I gotta say I think I pretty much dug every track. F.U., Heavy Darkness, and Crucify Me stood out, although I'll definitely need another full-through listen with a few drinks and an edible.

So, it's better than Angel Down? Because I thought that one was pretty solid.

Checked it out yesterday and it's pretty fucking solid. Some really great riffs and solos on here, too. I'm digging it.

I love Angel Down, but this is pretty f'ing solid all the way through.

AD sounds like a great Bach solo album. This sounds like a great SR album.

As others have pointed out, this is way better than it should be

I don't care for the production on Bach's solo albums including this one. Vocals way too high and guitars just blasting with no dynamics. Skid Row always had more gritty production with a better blend.

It's really good.

I enjoyed the songs, despite the vocals not being his best, i.e. not even close to the first two SR records. It's understandable though, considering it's been thirty+ years and the peak of his vocal ability was back in the early 90s. Due to aging and strong coupling to not taking care of himself, we've seen the gradually loss of his vocal stamina over the past 3 decades.

Hiring a team of writers was a wise decision. They most likely guided him towards this softer vocal range.

It would be interesting to know if he brought any other creative elements to the table, outside of screams and minor adjustments of lyrical enunciation.

I didn’t expect this album to be his best solo release, but it is. He made a statement with this album. I supported the SR goes with their various singers in the past, but they are out of options at this point. Also, pound for pound, these songs are better than the songs on The Gang’s All Here.

Listened to it twice yesterday & its very good. First 4 songs seem to stand out as the best with the rest being a lot of mid tempo songs that shows off Sebastians voice.
Wasnt a huge fan of Angel Down, other than a couple songs. This seems more rock where that was a tad more metal.
Compared to Gangs All Here, I prefer the Skids as I thought that was a more thorough album.
Nothing to be ashamed of tho, a very good release that Id recommend

Sebastian sounds good (studio magic?). But most of the songs are filler/forgettable on first listen.

Subhuman Race is better? So the new Bach release is beyond terrible?

No. I’ve heard 2-3 songs off the Bach album that are good. It’s MUCH better than Subhuman Race.
